JACKSON TWP. ‒ James Hannon has been appointed dean and chief administrative officer of the Kent State University’s Stark and Salem campuses ‒ a job he has held as interim since last summer.
Hannon replaces Denise Seachrist, who retired last June.
“I am quite proud to have been named dean and CAO of Kent State’s Stark and Salem campuses,” the 56-year-old said. “After serving a year in an interim position, I fully appreciate the role that these campuses serve in the Kent State University system, and I am honored to lead them at such a pivotal time for higher education in our state. Each campus is vital to its community and, together, these campuses will continue to provide educational opportunities that will change the futures of so many.”
Previously, he served as the dean of the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University beginning in 2017.
Prior to his role at Kent State, Hannon was a professor and assistant dean for academic affairs and research at West Virginia University in the College of Physical Activity and Sport Science.
He previously held various roles at the University of Utah, including chair of the department of exercise and sport science within the College of Health. He also served as director of graduate studies for the department and as director of the physical education teacher education program.
Hannon earned his Doctor of Philosophy in teacher education-physical education from Florida State University in 2004. He received a master’s degree in physical education curriculum and instruction from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration-human resource management from Southern Illinois University.
