Week 2 of the Indianapolis Colts’ voluntary OTA practices begins on Monday.
During the first week, we saw Daniel Jones take the practice field, Shane Steichen addressed the backup quarterback situation, and key offseason positional battles began.
What should we be on the lookout for this week?
Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard at QB
Steichen announced that these two will be competing for the backup quarterback role. He added that this competition won’t be decided until training camp and the preseason plays out. So while what happens in Week 2 of OTAs won’t decide the position battle, the foundation for it can be established this week.
Who makes plays at defensive end?
One of the most important position battles taking place for the Colts is at defensive end, specifically, who ends up starting opposite of Laiat Latu? This season, the Colts need a more consistent pass rush presence around Latu after ranking 30th as a collective unit in ESPN’s pass rush win rate metric in 2025.
The right side of the Colts’ offensive line
The play of Matt Goncalves at right guard and Jalen Travis at right tackle will go a long way in determining how good the Colts’ offensive line can be this season. Goncalves can hopefully make a Year 2 jump, now in his second season at guard, while Travis has some starts under his belt, but is still a relatively inexperienced player overall. Generating consistent running lanes for Jonathan Taylor is a must for this side of the line.
