The UW-Milwaukee Panthers shocked the college baseball world when they took down host school and the region’s top seed, Auburn, in their first NCAA Tournament game in 16 years on Friday, May 29.
The 13-8 victory for the Panthers was their second ever tournament win and first in 27 years.
Can they do it again?
UW-Milwaukee (26-31) goes for its ninth straight victory when it plays Central Florida, which also won its first regional game, in the winners bracket of the double-elimination regional.
First pitch is set for 7 p.m. Central time at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama. The game can be streamed on ESPN +.
The Horizon League Tournament champions will likely look to use a similar formula as its upset over Auburn when it applied an aggressive approach at the plate to take an early 10-0 lead behind two home runs. It was the first time a No. 4 seed has scored at least 10 runs against a top seed in a region.
The Panthers also became the first NCAA team in nine years to knock off a top four overall seed in the tournament.
Shaun Wegner’s team faces a UCF team that powered its way past North Carolina State, 9-3, in its first regional game, a contest that stretched over two days due to weather. UW-Milwaukee pitchers will have to watch out for UCF star Andrew Williamson, who socked three home runs in the win over the Wildcats.
UCF, 32-21 overall out of the Big 12, received an at-large selection to the tournament. The regional game is the first for UW-Milwaukee against UCF in program history.

UW-Milwaukee plays Central Florida in each team’s second regional game at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Alabama. The winner will be one victory from advancing to the Super Regional. The loser will need to win three straight to advance.
