Twinsburg man gets prison time for firing gun at Ravenna home in 2024

A Twinsburg man will spend more than nine years in a state prison for firing a gun at a Ravenna home in 2024.

Judge Becky Doherty sentenced William Maurice Hale-Jones, 20, to 11 to 12½ years in prison during his May 26 sentencing hearing in Portage County Court of Common Pleas. She credited him for 520 days he was incarcerated in Portage County Jail prior to sentencing.

Ravenna police said that after residents in Madison Street’s 400 block reported hearing gunshots at about 10 p.m. Aug. 12, 2024, it was discovered that two vehicles in a home’s driveway and the home’s garage bay door had been struck by bullets fired from the sidewalk in front of the home. One bullet was found to have passed through two backyard fences before becoming lodged in a tree on a Jefferson Street property more than 200 feet to the east.

Police said the home’s residents were inside at the time, but no injuries were reported.

A total of 11 spent cartridges and bullet fragments were recovered.

Police said security cameras located an involved vehicle, which eventually led to Hale-Jones’ arrest at his home Sept. 17, 2024.

Just prior to his sentencing, Hale-Jones pleaded to all charges in a grand jury indictment, including improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school safety zone and three counts of assault, all second-degree felonies.

He also pleaded to firearm specifications included with the four counts. He had been facing a maximum sentence of eight to 12 years for each count plus three years for each specification, according to court records.
