The Spanish River boys team only had five athletes score points at the Class 4A state championships but they still managed to finish as state runner-up thanks to top podium finishes in the pole vault and distance events. That same small group managed to grab a third-place finish at regionals and a district championship. Spanish River’s boys squad also won the county championship. Horn’s top runner, Preston Sangely, set the county standard and came within a second of a historic quadruple state championship.
