Warriors linked to two former Bulls guards ahead of 2026 free agency

Ahead of 2026 free agency, the Golden State Warriors have plenty of spots to fill, with 10 current players scheduled to be free agents. This includes veterans Draymond Green and Al Horford, who have a chance to opt out of their contracts and hit the market once more. Given the Warriors’ many needs, fans have speculated who the franchise may target this summer.

That answer was revealed earlier this week when Brett Siegel of Clutch Points indicated that Golden State could be targeting a backup point guard. The two names Siegel mentioned were recent Chicago Bulls guards Collin Sexton and Anfernee Simons.

After starting for the past three seasons, Simons accepted a role off the bench for the Celtics after a trade sent him from Portland to Boston. Although Simons was solid for the Celtics, they opted to move him again in favor of another big, Nikola Vucevic. Between Boston and Chicago, Simons averaged 14.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 0.5 steals while shooting 38.5% from the 3-point line.

Similar to Simons, Sexton was involved in an offseason trade last summer before being dealt to the Bulls at the deadline. The Charlotte Hornets acquired Sexton last summer only to flip him for Coby White despite playing well in a backup role. In 68 total appearances between both teams, Sexton averaged 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals while shooting 40.1% from deep.

Either of these guards would be solid pickups for the Warriors’ second unit. Sexton may be the better acquisition due to his balanced all-around play and defensive prowess. That said, with the right tactics from head coach Steve Kerr, the addition of Simons may offer more offensive upside. Simons could play a role similar to D’Angelo Russell who averaged 23.6 points in 33 games with Golden State back in the 2019-20 season.
