The Snowline Joint Unified School District reported that one of its police officers was involved in a shooting.
District officials said the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26 near the intersection of Bear Valley and Mesa View roads, west of Highway 395.
The Snowline Joint Unified School District Police Department is fully cooperating with sheriff’s investigators as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, district officials stated.
“At this time, limited information is available as the investigation remains active,” district officials stated. “Additional details will be released by the appropriate investigating agency when they become available. The safety of our students, staff and community remains our highest priority. We appreciate the professionalism and swift response of all emergency personnel involved.”
Several residents in the area said a portion of Bear Valley Road was closed as multiple investigators worked the scene, along with one medical transport vehicle that had arrived.
Some said traffic was diverted, with standard vehicles, school buses, delivery trucks and semi-trucks traveling down paved and unpaved roadways.
“I knew something was wrong when our street became a highway,” resident Kay Raleigh said. “It’s a frequent occurrence around here, especially near Highway 395.”
