Vasquez said in an earlier media release on Monday that police got a call about a disturbance at an address in the 900 block of Juarez Street.

He said the call taker heard two loud bangs on the line and a few moments later a child came on the line to say their mother had been shot.

Vasquez said when officers arrived, they encountered Loeffler in the front yard of the residence, and he pointed a firearm at them.

“Due to the perceived deadly force threat, our Officers fired at the suspect and he subsequently fled on foot towards Bailey Avenue,” Vasquez said.

The media release said officers caught up with Loeffler in the 400 block of Bailey Avenue.

“There, our officers perceived another deadly force threat and fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him,” Vaquez said.

The media release said police rendered first aid at the scene, and Loeffler was transported to the hospital. It also said two officers were involved in the shooting.

The press release did not include the officers’ names.

The woman who was shot was also taken to the hospital for treatment of her wounds.

Vasquez said in the media release the unidentified woman was in surgery early Monday.
