No. 11 Florida State baseball (38-17, 19-11 ACC) was defeated by the Pittsburgh Panthers in a wild ninth inning that saw Pitt hit a walk-off three-run homer to eliminate the Seminoles from the ACC Tournament.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, Baseball America’s bracketology of the field of 64 continues to like FSU’s chances to host a regional, as in their rankings, Florida State remains a No. 1 seed, as they have for most of the season. Last week, they were the No. 9 overall seed.
Now, FSU is projected to host the Tallahassee regionals as the No. 10 overall one-seed and would host No. 23-ranked Jacksonville State, Louisiana, and Rider. Other notable No. 1 seeds expected to host regionals include the Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers, with FSU playing both of them in the regular season.
The Gators are projected as the No. 8 seed, so unless the Gators rise to a No. 7 seed, the hypothetical 7-10 FSU-Florida Super Regional may not happen after all. Instead, they are matched up with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
The Seminoles are 32-48 in the NCAA Tournament, and they will hope for good luck in the seeding department. The NCAA Tournament bracket will be revealed on Monday at noon ET, and fans can watch it live on ESPN2.
