Tallahassee bar Growler Country announces opening date for new location

If you’ve been keeping up with our reports, then you know the town is buzzing with excitement over the food scene. From the opening of The Peach Cobbler Factory to Fazoli’s, and now, an old favorite is reopening its doors.

The popular bar and craft beer destination known as Growler Country is officially reopening in a new location on 8110 Killearn Plaza Lane on June 12.

It sits in the former Pro Bank building, right next door to Redemption Hill Church and Little Lambs Children’s Center.

The owners, Mario Fernandez and his family shared the news in an email stating: “After years of hard work, many Facebook comments, & an infinite amount of red tape, we are ecstatic to announce the grand opening of Growler Country Tavern & Grill’s Northside location…We thank you for your patience, for your encouragement, & for telling us how you felt along the way.”

To celebrate, Growler Country will host VIP preview events before the grand opening for longtime fans, before opening to the public on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Years in the works

In 2021, the Fernandez family took over the Capital Circle Northeast location.

After 10 years of operation, the family closed the spot prized for its game day watch parties, generous craft beer selection and a revered Cuban sandwich in their hub on 3305 Capital Circle N.E. while building out the northeast storefront.

For the past two years, the owners of the popular Growler Country restaurant on Capital Circle have teased about the opening of the new space. Now the long-awaited debut is right around the corner.

Here’s a refresher on what you can expect on your visit.

The top floor will feature one of Tallahassee’s favorite Cuban sandwiches, gourmet tacos, a great selection of craft beers and vintage sports antiques to make what is known as Growler Country.

The den is filled with sports-themed memorabilia. In the center of the room, brown leather couches face the wall filled with flat-screen televisions, high-top tables line the windows. On the opposite side, the bar area houses a variety of beers on tap and in-house brews.

The Fernandez family says they “aim to become your go-to family destination, bringing you great food and drink, fun activities, entertainment and much more.” They are also the faces behind the lakeside bar and sunset grill Fish Camp

Coming months down the line in the downstairs area of the same Capital Circle space is an attraction catering to the imagination of both young and old, dubbed “Jurassic Pizza Y’all.”

The menu will feature traditional Chicago, New York and Philadelphia style pizzas and pasta dishes as well. But most importantly, dinosaurs and mythical creatures are the main draw of what is being dubbed as a unique dining experience.

Multiple animatronic dinosaurs including a T-Rex, museum quality dinosaur skeletons, figurines as well as grand fish tanks will fill the restaurant.
