The champs responded.
After suffering their first loss of the playoffs when they fell in double overtime in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, the Oklahoma City Thunder bounced back behind a team effort in their 122-113 Game 2 victory over the San Antonio Spurs.
The series, which is setting audience records, now shifts to San Antonio for two games with Game 3 on Friday, May 22. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Frost Bank Center.
The Thunder, who are slight underdogs for the first time this postseason, will look toward their star and depth again to remain perfect on the road in the playoffs.
In Game 2, MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (30 points) led seven Thunder players in double figures, including four bench players. Sparked by Alex Caruso’s 17 points, the Thunder’s bench outscored the Spurs’, 57-25, on their way to evening up the series. OKC’s bench stepped up following the exit of All-Star guard Jalen Williams, who left in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and did not return.
Williams, who missed all of the team’s second-round series with a hamstring strain, is questionable heading into Game 3.
The Spurs are heading home where they are 4-2 in the playoffs. The four wins have been double-digit margins and all when they have kept opponents below 100 points. The 122 points they allowed in Game 2 to the Thunder were the most in the playoffs.
But potentially working in their favor is the success they have had against the Thunder at home this season. Victor Wembanyama and Co. beat OKC two times at Frost Bank Center by an average of 15 points. This is also the third straight series they enter a Game 3 tied at 1-1. The Spurs won both previous times.
Guards De’Aaron Fox (ankle) and Dylan Harper (adductor), however, are questionable. Fox missed both Games 1 and 2 with the injury.
