Bruno Mars surprised Hilliard Darby graduating seniors in a sweet way on May 19 after their graduation was rescheduled because of his concert on May 20.
After Hilliard Darby seniors learned that their graduation date had been moved, several of them created the “darbyneedsbrunomars” account on TikTok, which hoped to harness the power of social media to encourage the nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist to attend their graduation or at least provide a video message for the graduating class of 2026.
Bruno Mars heard them. At their graduation, Bruno Mars paid to have an ice cream truck with a custom Bruno Mars wrap distribute free ice cream to the graduates and their guests after students in the school leveraged social media to get his attention.
The school graduation was at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State University. While the Bruno Mars concert is at Ohio Stadium, it was logistically impractical to have both events on the same evening due to parking availability and other issues.
