The National Weather Service in Wilmington has extended its severe thunderstorm warning tonight for central Ohio counties as heavy rain pelts the region.
The severe thunderstorm warning originally issued May 19 was for northernFranklin County, including Columbus, Dublin, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, Worthington, Westerville, Gahanna and other municipal areas. The warning was originally in effect until 9:30 p.m., but has been extended to 10 p.m., according to the weather service.
The extended warning is for southern Franklin County, southwestern Licking County, and northern Fairfield and Pickaway counties, according to the weather service.
Some of the affected areas include Newark, Lancaster, Reynoldsburg, Bexley, Grove City, Pickerington, and other municipal areas.
Delaware County, northern Franklin County, northwestern Licking County, southeastern Union County, and northeastern Madison County were also under the original warning, though the heavy storms have moved through those areas.
The NWS reports that wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible. Damage to trees as well as power lines is expected, according to the weather service.
