Canton Twp. man stays in burning house to find pet. He didn't make it

A 44-year-old Canton Township man died in a fire at his home early Tuesday, authorities said.

The man “was believed to have remained inside the residence in an attempt to locate a pet,” according to a press statement by the Canton Public Safety Department.

The home in the 43000 block of Lancelot was fully engulfed in flames around 1 a.m. when officials arrived and found two other adult occupants had escaped.

The third occupant stayed inside. Personnel from the Canton Fire Department later located the man dead on the second floor of the dwelling.

Officials didn’t say what happened to the pet.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Other details were not released Tuesday.
