Beach goers mostly have four-legs

GIBSONBURG – The Dog Days at the Beach was held at White Star Quarry on May 16. The event, cosponsored by the Sandusky County Park District and the Sandusky County Dog Warden, was very popular. It is now held twice a year.

Dogs of all sizes and ages can run and play off leash, on a day in May, two weeks before the swimming season begins for human park goers, and on a day two weeks after the season ends in September.

At 10 a.m., small dogs and elderly dogs gather on the beach for playtime. Then at 11 a.m., the big dogs have their time to run with dogs their own size — running free, chasing balls and sticks, and taking a dip in the cold quarry water.

According to Dog Warden Kelly Pocock, around 45 dogs attended this year’s event and were given a tennis ball to play with. As the dogs left the beach, they were given a pup cup snack to enjoy.
