Emotions ran high at California Lutheran University 63rd annual commencement in Thousand Oaks May 15.
In two ceremonies, more than 1,000 graduates celebrated the completion of their college programs. Some leapt for joy upon receiving their diplomas, and others shed tears during the event at William Rolland Stadium.
The theme was “Where Dreams Take Flight” and paid homage to both the graduates and Grammy Award nominee and composer Morten Lauridsen who received an honorary doctorate prior to commencement.
One of two undergraduate speakers, Manuel Vega, dedicated his bachelor’s degree psychological and behavioral science.to his son, Patrick, a U.S. Marine who died in 2018. The second speaker was Abigail Marin Iniestra who earned her bachelor’s degrees in criminology and criminal justice and Spanish, with a minor in legal studies.
