Routine food service inspections are vital to protecting a community’s overall health, and the Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Health Agency inspects licensed food services every month.

Below are details on health inspections performed at restaurants, schools, and other locations in Branch County between May 1 and 15.

There are three main categories of food service establishment violations:

Priority Items: These are the most critical violations and are most likely to cause foodborne illness if not corrected. Examples include issues with employee hygiene, food handling, and temperature control.

Priority Foundation Items: Violations that could lead to a priority violation if not addressed. Examples include a lack of necessary supplies or equipment.

Core Items: These relate to general sanitation, equipment, and facility maintenance.
