A Wayne County woman didn’t need her special set of numbers to win a Lotto 47 jackpot in April.
The woman, 68, who chose to remain anonymous, usually plays the same lottery numbers, but in the spur of the moment decided to add Easy Pick numbers to a recent purchase, according to the Michigan Lottery.
One set of her Easy Pick numbers matched all six numbers drawn April 25 – 5, 16, 17, 34, 36 and 44 – to win the jackpot worth $1.67 million.
She purchased her ticket at New Boston Fuel Stop Inc., a Mobil gas station, located at 37330 Huron River Road in New Boston.
“My husband and I have been playing Lotto 47 since it began,” she told the Michigan Lottery. “We have a special set of numbers we usually play, so we played those and then at the last minute decided to add two sets of Easy Pick numbers to the ticket too.”
The morning after the drawing, her husband check the ticket.
“As I checked off the numbers, I said to myself: ‘We won $5, then $100, then $2,500,’ and then when I checked off the last number to win the jackpot, I yelled: ‘No way!’” he told the Michigan Lottery. “I surprised my wife later that morning by handing her the ticket and showing her the winning numbers online.”
The woman recently claimed her prize and chose to receive the money as a one-time lump sum payment of about $1.16 million instead of annuity payments for the full amount.
She plans to buy a new car and save the rest.
