Tips sought in fatal Pontiac hit-and-run

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies are asking the public for help to find the motorists in a fatal hit-and-run last weekend in Pontiac.

The incident happened at about 11:40 p.m. Sunday on Featherstone Road at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials said detectives have new surveillance camera video of the incident that shows one of two vehicles that struck a 60-year-old Pontiac man.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said the vehicle has an unusual front end with the turn signal mounted under the headlight, which could lead to its identification and finding the driver.

“It is hard to fathom that a person would strike another human being with a car and drive off, leaving them to die,” Bouchard said in a statement. “We would greatly appreciate the public’s help with any information that could identify the individuals involved. A reward is possible if it leads to thearrest and conviction of an individual.”

He said the vehicle is a smaller SUV, possibly dark blue, and should have minor damage near the passenger side headlight.

Police said the victim was found on Cameron Avenue just north of Featherstone. Investigators found a blood-stained drag mark on the pavement that started about half a mile west of the intersection, leading to his body.

Detectives said they have yet to notify the victim’s next of kin.

Anyone with information about the incident, the vehicles involved in the hit-and-runs, or the suspected drivers should call the sheriff’s office at (248) 858-4950 or Crime Stoppers of Michigan at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

On Tuesday, Michigan State Police said 13 people had died on state roadways since last week, with 251 deaths so far in 2026. In addition, 88 more were seriously injured, leaving a total of 1,406 this year.

Compared to last year at this time, there are 43 fewer fatalities and 62 fewer serious injuries, according to MSP.
