Steve Kerr opens up on battling difficult retirement decision

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has had a lot to consider during the past month, being eliminated from playoff contention after an NBA Play-In Tournament run.

Afterward, Kerr took some time to evaluate his future as a coach, making a tough choice between returning and retirement.

In an article by Wright Thompson of ESPN, Kerr recently opened up about this decision, one that he’s taken more seriously since his mentor and Hall of Fame NBA coach Gregg Popovich was forced to leave the sidelines due to health issues.

“How am I going to feel exactly a year from now? Maybe two years from now? Because the job itself is so addictive,” said Kerr.

“You want to trust yourself but also be suspicious of your own motives. You don’t want to walk away too early, but you don’t want to walk away too late. And you worry about what your life is going to feel like (after).”

Ultimately, the 604-win coach decided to stay, re-signing with the team for two more seasons.
