Division VII District Final Baseball: Tiffin Calvert 9, South Central 1

The Trojans finished as district runner-up to the Senecas at Heise Park.

Calvert jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one and pushed it to 8-0 by the end of the second inning to put South Central in a big hole from the start. The Trojans’ lone run of the game came in the third inning when Cole Frankart drove in Gavin Olney from third base.

South Central stranded three runners on base and hit into double plays twice. Weston June was 2-for-3 at the plate, Bryan Chaffee and Olney had the only other hits, Grayson Fisher drew a walk.

Division VI District Final Baseball: St. Henry 7, Colonel Crawford 4

The Colonel Crawford Eagles took a tough 7-4 Division VI district championship loss to St. Henry on Friday night.

Van Wintersteller led the Eagles with two hits while Parker Weithman, Nat McCartney, Carson Rader, Evan Metzger, Grady Riggle and Jentsen Landon had one apiece. McCartney collected two RBIs while Weithman and Wintersteller had one apiece.

The Eagles end the season 14-10.

Division VI District Final Baseball: Seneca East 4, Crestview 1 

The Crestview Cougars took a tough 4-1 Division VI district championship loss to Seneca East on Friday night.

Troy Weaver, Carson Keener, Brayden Parrigan, Kayn Patton and Kaden Stutz all had one hit apiece for the Cougars.

Colton Ernandes pitched well enough to win allowing four runs, just three earned, on four hits with six strikeouts.

The Cougars end the season 11-12.

Division VI District Final Baseball: Kirtland 5, Hillsdale 2

The Hillsdale Falcons took a tough 5-2 Division VI district championship loss to Kirtland on Friday night.

Aiden Hoffman led the Falcons with two hits while Kael Lewis, Hunter Hickey, Knox Lewis, Brady Heller and Connor Helbert had one apiece. Helbert and Hoffman collected one RBI apiece.

Kael Lewis worked the first four innings allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit with two strikeouts and six walks.

The Falcons end the season 18-11.

Thursday, May 28 

Division II State Tennis 

The Division II state boys tennis tournament took place on Thursday, May 28 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason.

Lexington’s Cooper Remy and Tony Palmer teamed up in the doubles tournament and won their opening-round match 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 over Billy Beseth and William Henry of Gates Mills Hawkins. The duo lost the quarterfinal match to Henry Lessard and Adrian Schiff of Bexley 6-1, 6-2 to end their state tournament run.

Willard’s Levi Schag and Mason Dawson competed in the doubles tournament as well and took a 6-0, 6-1 opening-round loss to Pepper Pike Orange’s Joseph DeMata-Hiciano and Zayd Adi.

Lexington’s Phillip Etzel played in the singles tournament and took a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Bexley’s Amiya Bowles in the opening round of the tournament.

Division III Regional Track Day 1 at Piqua 

The first day of the Division III regional track and field championships took place on Thursday at Piqua High School.

The Ontario 4×800-meter relay team of Xavier Trent, Michael Ward, Xander Chitwood and Jace Young won the Division III regional championship with a 7:55.54.

The Lexington 4×800-meter relay team of Katya Prykhodko, Jersie Palmer, Morgan Harrod and Mia Twedt punched its ticket to state with a regional runner-up finish with a 9:28.70.

Clear Fork’s Katrina Neal took third in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:04.97 to earn a state meet berth.

Clear Fork’s Nash Evans finished as the Division III regional runner-up in the boys long jump competition with a leap of 21-02.

Ontario’s Maddix Smith and Clear Fork’s Julian Mills earned a state qualifying spot in the boys discus event. Smith took third with a toss of 161-feet while Mills was fifth with a 152-05.

Division V Regional Track Day 1 at Fostoria 

The first day of the Division V regional track and field championships took place at Fostoria High School on Thursday.

Bucyrus’ Karter Boggs and Lucas’ Ray Lewis will run at the state track and field meet in the 3,200-meter run after Boggs took regional runner-up honors with a 9:29.79 and Lewis was third with a 9:31.34, a new school record.

Bucyrus’ Ivan Pirnstill advanced to state in the pole vault after clearing 14 feet to take third in the regional meet.

Lucas’ Joey Desterhaft was fifth in the boys long jump competition with a leap of 21:10.25 and will move on to state.

Colonel Crawford’s Luke Christman placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 161-11 to earn the first at-large bid to the state meet.

Division V Regional Track Day 1 at Cuyahoga Heights

The first day of the Division V regional track and field championships took place at Cuyahoga Heights High School on Thursday.

Mansfield Christian’s Riley Patrick took third in the 3,200-meter run with an 11:06.12 and will make a return trip to state in the event.

Lucas’ Katie Griffey punched her ticket to state in the girls shot put competition with a toss of 36-04.25 which was good for fifth place.

Loudonville’s Cama Skok was regional runner-up in the girls high jump clearing 5-02, South Central’s Lauren Ingram was third with a leap of 5-01, Loudonville’s Sophie Shultz fourth also clearing 5-01 on more misses, and Colonel Crawford’s Emmi Powers was fifth at 5-00 winning a jump off for the final qualifying spot; Hillsdale’s Hayden McFadden was third in the boys long jump with a leap of 21-03.50 … all five will jump at state.

Wednesday, May 27 

Division II Regional Track Day 1 at Lexington

The first day of the Division II regional track and field championships is in the books and a relay crew and two field athletes have already punched their tickets to next week’s state track and field championships.

The Lexington 4×800-meter relay crew of Trevor Reed, Nathan Reed, Will Hooper and Latrell Hughes won the regional championship with a blistering time of 7:48.68.

Lexington’s Eli Barr advanced to state by taking fourth in the boys pole vault competition clearing 13-feet.

Ashland’s Dakota Kruty won the Division II regional championship in the boys long jump competition with a leap of 21-05.25 to punch his ticket to Columbus.

The rest of the field events and the running finals finish up on Friday, May 29.

Division IV Regional Track Day 1 at Marion Harding 

The first day of the Division IV regional track and field championships is in the books from Marion.

Crestview’s Liam Kuhn won the Division IV regional boys pole vault championship clearing 14-8 to send him back to Columbus.

Crestview’s Kaelyn Weaver is also headed to state in the girls high jump as she cleared 5-2 to take third overall and earn an automatic qualifying spot.

The rest of the field events and the running finals finish up on Friday, May 29.

Division VI District Semifinal Baseball: Hillsdale 7, Rootstown 0

The Hillsdale Falcons cruised to a 7-0 Division VI district semifinal win over Rootstown on Wednesday night.

Eben Wilson-Mills, Brock Bower and Conner Helbert led the Falcons with two hits apiece while Deacon Boreman, Aiden Hoffman, Carter Barrett and Brady Heller had one apiece. Helbert and Bower collected two RBIs apiece while Hoffman had one.

Hoffman was untouchable on the mound allowing no runs on just one hit with three strikeouts in a complete-game masterpiece.

The Falcons improve to 18-10 and take on Kirtland at 5 p.m. on May 29 at Dodge Intermediate in Twinsburg for the Division VI district championship.

Division VI District Semifinal Baseball: Colonel Crawford 6, Wynford 5 F/8

Division VI District Semifinal Baseball: Crestview 7, Monroeville 1

Division IV Regional Semifinal Softball: Bryan 5, Clear Fork 3

The Clear Fork Colts gave undefeated Bryan everything it could handle and more in a 5-3 Division IV regional semifinal loss on Wednesday night.

After falling behind 2-0 heading to the bottom of the fourth Colts got on the board when Mya Perry reached on a throwing error on a bunt attempt. After stealing second, Perry moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Presley Lilly before scoring on an RBI groundout by Millie Chamberlain. The Colts added two more in the bottom of the sixth when Braylee Wenger started the inning off with a single before moving up to second on a passed ball. She later scored on a bunt single by Perry who moved to second on a fielder’s interference. She stole third and scored on an RBI groundout by Lilly to make the deficit 4-3 before Bryan added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take the victory.

Karlynn Mortimer led the Colts with two hits while Perry and Wenger had one apiece. Perry and Lilly had one RBI apiece in the loss.

Clear Fork ends the season 23-8.

Division VI Regional Semifinal Softball: Dalton 3, Hillsdale 1

The Hillsdale Falcons saw their season come to a close with a 3-1 Division VI regional semifinal loss to Dalton on Wednesday night.

Ally Morgan led the Falcons with two hits while Kennedy Fickes, Kiki McFadden and Emily Smith had one apiece. McFadden had the lone RBI.

Macy Mager pitched well enough to win allowing three runs, just two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Falcons end their season 20-8.

Division IV District Semifinal Baseball: Bellevue 2, Shelby 0

The Shelby Whippets saw their season come to an end with a 2-0 Division IV district semifinal loss to Bellevue on Wednesday night in Willard.

Brady Bowman had the lone hit for the Whippets.

Kaleb Stairs pitched a gem of a ballgame allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with three strikeouts.

The Whippets end the year 13-11.

Tuesday, May 26

Division III District Semifinal Baseball: Lexington 5, Wapakoneta 1

Division III District Semifinal Baseball: Defiance 8, Ashland 3

Division VII Sectional Final Baseball: Lucas 11, Buckeye Central 5 

The Lucas Cubs picked up an impressive 11-5 Division VII sectional championship win over Buckeye Central on Tuesday night.

Jack DiBartolomeo led the Cubs with three hits while Anthony Fanello had two and Brady Anschutz, Alagacy Grose and Xavier Hall had one apiece. Anschutz, Grose and Zell Finley had two RBIs apiece while Cooper Day, DiBartolomeo, Cullen Withrow, Hall and Colton Boquette had one apiece. DiBartolomeo slugged a home run in the win.

Anschutz took the win on the mound allowing five runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts in a complete game.

The Cubs improve to 9-9 and move on to play South Central at 2 p.m. on May 28 at Galion in the Division VII district semifinals.

Monday, May 25

Division VI District Final Softball: Ada 11, Colonel Crawford 10

Division VI Sectional Final Baseball: Monroeville 10, Mansfield Christian 0 (6 inn.)

The Flames finished the season as sectional runner-up with a loss to the Eagles.

JR Reeded had the lone hit of the day for Mansfield Christian, Joshua Hillman and Landan Bishop each drew a walk.

The Flames finish the season 1-16.

Sunday, May 24

Division VI Sectional Final Baseball: Crestview 7, New London 6

The Cougars won a sectional championship on a walk-off in extras over conference rival New London.

Tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Drew Spoerr swung at the first ball thrown to him and sent it into centerfield allowing Kayn Patton to score from second base and end the game in thrilling fashion.

Crestview scored one in the first inning on a Landon Fulk single, two in the second on a Brennan Dille single and Patton sacrifice fly, and three in the third on a Kaden Stutz sac fly, Dille single, and a fielding error for a 6-0 lead. New London got on the board in the sixth inning on a Ryan Williams fielder’s choice that scored Logan Sword. The Wildcats then had a five-run seventh inning to send the game into extras scoring on a bases loaded walk followed by Oliver Harrison driving in a pair on a single and then Brody Sword tied it with a two RBI single.

Spoerr had three hits, one run, one RBI, one stolen base for the Cougars, Troy Weaver had two hits, one run, Dille two hits, two runs, two RBIs, Keener one hit, one run, one walk, two stolen bases. Colton Ernandes pitched the first six innings allowing eight hits, six runs, four earned, and struck out five before Spoerr finished the final three allowing two hits and striking out three to earn the win.

Brody Sword had three hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats, Shane Dobias two hits and one run, Harrison one hit and two RBIs, Kade Detterman drew two walks. Harrison started on the mound going 6⅔ innings allowing seven hits, three runs, two earned, and striking out two before Brody Sword came in relief for two innings allowing four hits, four runs, three earned, and struck out one.

Crestview will face another Firelands Conference foe in Monroeville on Wednesday at Shelby High School in a district semifinal at 5 p.m. while New London’s season comes to an end at 9-15.

Division VI Sectional Final Baseball: Wynford 2, Western Reserve 1

The Royals won a sectional championship in walk-off fashion over the Roughriders.

Tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Jaxon Tate ripped a double to centerfield scoring Collin Hulsmeyer and sending Wynford into districts. Clay Rogers’ double in the first inning scored Brayden Campbell as the team’s other run on the night.

Rogers had two hits and an RBI, Reed Johnson two hits, Tate and Jaron Vance each drew a walk. Drew Pope started on the mound for the Royals going 5⅓ innings with six strikeouts, three hits allowed, and one earned run before Campbell came in for the final 1⅔ allowing one hit and striking out two for the win.

Wynford will play rival Colonel Crawford on Wednesday at Shelby High School in a district semifinal at 2 p.m.

Saturday, May 23 

Division II District Final Tennis at Port Clinton 

The seed matches of the Division II district tennis tournament took place on Saturday, May 23 at Port Clinton.

The Lexington doubles team of Tony Parker and Cooper Remi won the Division II district championship. After advancing to the semifinals on Thursday, the duo beat Bluffton’s Grady Coonfare and Isiah Kohli 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals before knocking off Ottawa Hills’ Ian Marzano and Sahil Parikh 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match. They will be a No. 1 seed in next week’s state tennis tournament.

Willard’s Levi Schag and Mason Dawson earned the No. 3 seed after falling to Marzano and Parikh in the semifinals but rebounding for a 6-4, 6-2 win over Coonfare and Kohli in the consolation match.

Lexington’s Phil Etzel ended up taking second place in the singles tournament. He beat Ottawa Hills’ Chris Thompson 7-6 (6), 5-7 and 6-3 in the semifinals before falling to Toledo Central Catholic’s Sebastian MacDonald 0-6, 6-2 and 6-4 in the championship match. He will be a No. 2 seed at next week’s state tournament.

Division III District Final Softball: Ontario 6, Maumee 4

Division III District Final Softball: Madison 10, Celina 2

Division VI Sectional Final Baseball: Hillsdale 3, Mapleton 2

The Hillsdale Falcons claimed the Division VI sectional championship with a 3-2 win over the Mapleton Mounties on Saturday afternoon.

Knox Lewis and Brock Bower led the Falcons with two hits apiece while Hunter Hickey, Deacon Boreman, Eben Wilson-Mills and Kael Lewis had one hit apiece. Hickey, Knox Lewis and Kael Lewis had one RBI apiece as Kael Lewis crushed a home run in the victory.

Aiden Hoffman picked up the win on the mound allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in a complete game masterpiece.

Mapleton was led by Bentley Workman, Ethan Dennison, Lukus Jenkins and Gabe Wrobleski with one hit apiece. Workman and Jenkins had one RBI apiece in the loss.

Workman pitched well enough to win allowing three runs on eight hits with a strikeout in six strong innings.

Hillsdale improves to 17-10 on the season and hosts the winner of Rootstown and Columbia at 5 p.m. on May 27 in the district semifinals. Mapleton ends the season 2-21.

Division VII Sectional Final Baseball: Plymouth 10, Crestline 0 F/6

The Plymouth Big Red cruised to a 10-0 Division VII sectional championship win over Crestline on Friday evening.

Lincoln Distl, Evan King and Isaiah Miller led the Big Red with two hits apiece while Jarrett Burrer, Lex Grose, Weston Kamman and Lucas Distl had one apiece. Lucas Distl and King had two RBIs apiece while Lincoln Distl and Miller had one apiece.

Lincoln Distl earned the win on the mound allowing no runs on two hits with seven strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Big Red improves to 15-9 and will play Mohawk at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 at Galion in the district semifinal game.

Division VI Sectional Final Baseball: Colonel Crawford 14, Bucyrus 4 F/5

The Colonel Crawford Eagles cruised to a 14-4 Division VI sectional championship win over Bucyrus on Friday night.

Evan Metzger, Parker Weithman and Brayden Holt led the Eagles with two hits apiece while Grady Riggle, Nate McCartney and Jentsen Landon had one apiece. Landon collected five RBIs while McCartney and Metzger had two apiece and Weithman, Van Wintersteller and Joe Zizzo had one apiece.

Wintersteller picked up the win on the mound allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work.

No state were posted by Bucyrus.

The Eagles improve to 13-9 and will play the winner of Wynford and Western Reserve at 2 p.m. on May 27 at Shelby in the district semifinals.

Bucyrus ends its season 6-20.

Division IV District Final Softball: Clear Fork 19, Lima Bath 2

Division VI District Final Softball: Mogadore 4, Black River 2

The Black River Pirates took a tough 4-2 loss in the Division VI district championship game on Friday night to Mogadore.

Remi Dieter, Jenna Dieter and Abbey Kiser led the Pirates with one hit apiece. Kiser and Briley Jackson had one RBI apiece.

Kiser pitched well allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and seven walks.

The Pirates finish the season with a 9-13 record.

Thursday, May 21 

Division II District Semifinal Tennis at Port Clinton

Tickets have officially been punched to the 2026 Division II state boys tennis tournament on Thursday after Day 1 of the district tournament.

The Lexington doubles team of Tony Palmer and Cooper Remy cruised in their first two matches beating Ottawa-Glandorf’s Noah Compton and Same Warnecke 6-0, 6-0 before making short work of Bryan’s Nolan Franzdorf and Kai Dauber in the quarterfinals. The duo will play Bluffton’s Grady Coonfare and Isiah Kohli in the semifinals on Saturday back at Port Clinton.

The Willard doubles team of Levis Schag and Mason Dawson are also headed to state. They beat St. Marys Memorial’s Jack Ackroyd and Noah White 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round before knocking off Clyde’s Chase Castle and Oscar Webb 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals to earn a state qualifying spot. They will play Ottawa Hills’ Ian Marzano and Sahil Parikh in the semifinals on Saturday in Port Clinton.

In singles, Lexington junior Phillip Etzel earned a state qualifying spot after beating MVCD’s Sammy Williams 6-3, 6-1 in the opening round of the singles tournament. He then beat Sandusky St. Marys Central Catholic’s Pravir Gordy 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals to earn his state tournament berth. He will take on Chris Thompson of Ottawa Hills on Saturday in a state seeding match.

Division III District Track Day 1 at Oak Harbor 

Day 1 of the Division III district track meet was a successful one for area school.

Ontario’s Ashton Drozda took second in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:14.96 while Rylan Baker was third with a 10:18.60 giving both runners an automatic regional qualifying spot.

The Ontario quartet of Xavier Trent, Michael Ward, Xander Chitwood and Jace Young took home the district championship in the 4×800-meter relay posting a time of 8:07.97. Shelby’s Isaac Friebel, Blake Nixon, Anthony Tackett and Keegan Sensmeier took fourth with an 8:55.60 to earn a regional berth.

In the boys discus, Ontario’s Maddix Smith was third with a toss of 152-03 while Clear Forks Julian Mills was fourth with a 151-03 giving both throwers a regional berth. Clear Fork’s Owen Weiser was fourth in the boys pole vault clearing 12-feet for a regional spot.

Galion’s Jacob Chambers and Clear Fork’s Nash Evans will move on in the boys long jump competition. Chambers reached 21-01.50 to take second while Evans posted a 20-06.50 for third.

For the girls, Katya Prykhodko took home the Division II 3,200-meter district championship with a time of 11:10.93 while teammate Brailey Slone was second with an 11:11.05 and Clear Fork’s Katrina Neal was third with an 11:11.08. All three earned automatic bids to regionals.

The Lexington quartet of Jersie Palmer, Gabi Twedt, Morgan Harrod and Mia Twedt took home the Division II district championship in the 4×800-meter relay after posting a 9:42.41. Ontario’s Kenzie Goodline, Willow Harris, Ava Zehe and Kamryn Pelphrey were third with a 9:59.75 and will also move on to regionals.

Clear Fork’s Asia Bechtel is moving on in the girls high jump after taking third at districts clearing 5-feet.

The rest of the field events and the running finals will take place on Saturday.

Division V District Track Day 1 at Colonel Crawford 

Every Division V field event took place on Thursday at the Division V district track meet at Colonel Crawford.

South Central’s Lauren Ingram won the girls high jump clearing 5-feet with fewer misses than Buckeye Central’s Phoebe Dallas and Colonel Crawford’s Emmi Powers, who both also cleared 5-feet. Ansley Witter was fourth with a mark at 4-10 and all four are off to the regional meet next week.

Lucas’ Joey Desterhaft won the Division V boys long jump championship flying 21-08.75 while Buckeye Centrals Collin Perry was second going 21-02. Both will jump at next week’s regional meet.

Bucyrus Ivan Pirnstill won the boys pole vault with a leap of 13-06 and New London’s Jayden Bracken was second with a mark of 12-feet. Both earned a regional berth.

Colonel Crawford’s Robin Ehmann (first place, 37-04) New London’s Kelsey Pauley (second place, 36-04), Lucas’ Katie Griffey (third place, 34-11) and South Central’s Autumn Fry (fourth place, 34-01.50) will all advance to the regional meet next week.

Colonel Crawford’s Dom Dean won a Division V district championship in the boys discus with a throw of 152-09 while teammate Luke Christman was second with a 149-11.

Lucas’ Riley Trumpower won a Division V district championship in the girls long jump leaping 15-11.50 while Colonel Crawford’s Brooklyn Good was fourth with a 15-02. They both will jump next week at regionals.

Colonel Crawford’s Cami Roston won the Division V district championship in the girls pole vault with a leap of 10-06 while South Central’s Taylor Smith (second place, 10-feet) and Falynn Schumacher (third place, 9-06) will also move on to regionals.

Colonel Crawford’s Payne DeGray took third in the boys shot put with a toss of 46-06.50 and teammate Dom Dean was fourth with a 46-01.50 sending both to regionals next week.

And finally, South Central’s Autumn Fry won the girls discus competition with a throw of 126-03 while Lucas’ Katie Griffey was second with 1 110-11 and Colonel Crawford’s Sydney Wirebaugh was third with a 104-09 sending all three to regionals.

In the individual running events finished on Thursday, Mansfield Christian’s Riley Patrick was the Division V district champion in the 3,200 with an 11:10.48 while Colonel Crawford’s Brynn Bruner (second; 12:06.67), teammate Rylinn Edgington (third; 12:07.88) and Crestline’s Nevaeh Hill (fourth; 12:12.88) all advanced out with automatic bids.

Bucyrus Karter Boggs won the boys 3,200 district title with a 9:48.98 while Lucas’ Ray Lewis (second; 9:50.06), New London’s Carter Hicks (third; 9:55.94) and Colonel Crawford’s Shawn Auck (fourth; 9:57.74) are also moving on to regionals.

Division III Sectional Final Baseball: Lexington 3, Norwalk 2

The Lexington Minutemen picked up a thrilling 3-2 sectional championship win over Norwalk on Thursday night.

Markale Martin led Lexington with two hits while Jackson Eichorn, Cole Eichorn, Graham Clark, Brayden Vance, Carson Fisher and Ben Young had one apiece. Tyler Galownia, Cole Eichorn and Young had one RBI apiece.

Galownia earned the win on the mound allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts in a complete game.

The Minutemen improve to 18-9 and take on Wapakoneta at 2 p.m. on May 26 in Tiffin in a district semifinal.

Division III Sectional Final Baseball: Ashland 6, Celina 5

Division III Sectional Final Baseball: Wapakoneta 10, Madison 1 

The Madison Rams took a tough 10-1 Division III sectional championship loss to Wapakoneta on Thursday night.

Kylor Steagall, Ashton Taylor, Aiden Proctor, Owen Morrow and Julian Washington had one hit apiece for the Rams while Liam Stone had the lone RBI.

The Rams end the season 11-17.

Division IV Sectional Final Baseball: Elida 6, Galion 2

The Galion Tigers took a tough 6-2 Division IV sectional championship game loss to Elida on Thursday night.

Kane Hay, Landyn Prosser and Kurt Hay had one hit apiece for the Tigers. Trey Fricke and Kane Hay had one RBI apiece in the loss.

The Tigers end the season 15-7.

Division IV Sectional Final Baseball: Clyde 6, Ontario 0

The Ontario Warriors suffered a tough 6-0 Division IV sectional championship game loss to Clyde on Thursday night.

Guy Trader, Dane Kearns, Jon Mahon and Liam Holden all had one hit apiece in the loss.

Ontario ends the season 13-12.

Wednesday, May 20

Division II District Track Day 1

It was a solid Day 1 of district track for area schools.

The Top 4 in each event automatically advance to next week’s regional meet and it seems as though regionals will already have a local flavor to it after just one day of competition.

In Division II, The Lexington quartet of Nathan Reed, Trevor Reed, Will Hooper and Clay Hooper won a Division II district championship in the 4×800-meter relay with a blistering time of 8:01.29. The Ashland team of Brady Thompson, Jack Parsons, Jonah Coffee and Brady Anderson took second with an 8:13.58 as both teams punched tickets to next week’s regional meet.

Ashland’s Ava Cline is also regional bound after running an 11:49.89 in the 3,200-meter run to take second overall. Lexington’s Lincoln Rice and Luke Haring advanced out of the boys 3,200-meter run race as Rice took second with a 9:35.85 and Haring was fourth with a 9:48.51.

Ashland’s Kelsey Kaeser is advancing in the girls shot put competition after taking third at the district meet with a toss of 33-08.25 while teammate Greyson Blough is making his way out in the discus by taking third in the boys competition with a toss of 145-02.

Ashland’s Dakota Kruty and Lexington’s Cam Glennon made their way out in the boys long jump competition. Kruty took second overall with a leap of 21-06.50 while Glennon was third with a 20-11.00.

In boys pole vault, Lexington’s Eli Barr took second overall with a vault of 12-06 while Ashland’s Ty Bates was fourth clearing 12-feet. They both will vault in next week’s regional meet.

The rest of the field and all running finals will take place on May 22 back at Tiffin Columbian.

Division IV District Track Day 1

In Division IV, Crestview’s Kaelyn Weaver too runner-up honors in the girls high jump competition by clearing 5-feet. She will jump next week at regionals.

The Crestview duo of Danika Kingman and Chloe Ringler also advanced out in the girls shot put competition. Kingman recorded a toss of 33-02.75 to take third overall and Chloe Ringler tossed the shot 33-02.75 to take fourth.

Crestview’s Liam Kuhn won the district title in the boys pole vault clearing 13-04 to make his way to the regional meet while sister Zoe Kuhn will join her brother after she took second in the girls pole vault with a leap of 10-04.

The rest of the field event as well as all running finals will take place on May 22 back at Fostoria High School.

While the Top 4 in each event automatically qualified, there will still be some at-large bids determined after each district has completed competition.

Division IV Sectional Championship Baseball: Shelby 8, Clear Fork 3

Division VI District Championship Softball: Hillsdale 10, Hanoverton United 2

Division VII District Semifinal Softball: Mohawk 20, Lucas 0

The Cubs bowed out of the postseason with a tough loss to top-seed Mohawk at Buckeye Central High School.

Aubrey Gottfried pitched a five-inning perfect game for the Warriors striking out 12 Lucas batters and getting the other three outs via two groundouts and an infield pop-up. Arya Ohm took the loss for the Cubs allowing four hits, 15 runs, eight earned, and walking seven with one strikeout in 2⅓ innings; Charlize Stinehour pitched 1⅔ innings giving up two hits, five earned runs, and walking three with a strikeout.

The Cubs finish the season 7-11.

Tuesday, May 19 

Division III Sectional Semifinal Baseball: Lexington 4, Tiffin Columbian 1 

The Lexington Minutemen punched their ticket to the sectional finals with a 4-1 Division III sectional semifinal win over Tiffin Columbian on Tuesday night.

Lexington struck first with three runs in the first inning when Cole Eichorn scored on a throwing error before Cooper Clark drew a bases-loaded walk and Carson Fisher had an RBI single. They added an insurance run in the fifth when Martin recorded an RBI single to center.

Martin led the way with two hits while Cole Eichorn, Graham Clark, Cooper Clark and Fisher had one apiece. Martin and Fisher had one RBI apiece.

Cole Eichorn was unhittable on the mound allowing just one unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts in a complete game masterpiece.

The Minutemen improve to 17-9 and travel to Norwalk at 5 p.m. on May 21 for a sectional championship.

Division IV District Semifinal Softball: Clear Fork 5, Oak Harbor 0

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: Colonel Crawford 9, New London 3

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: Wynford 13, South Central 2 F/5

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: Hillsdale 21, Newton Falls 1 F/5

The Hillsdale Falcons cruised to a 21-1 Division VI district semifinal win over Newton Falls on Tuesday night.

Aurora Martin and Emily Smith led the Falcons with four hits apiece while Kennedy Fickes, Joslyn Fickes and Jordyn Fickes had three apiece, Ally Morgan, Kiki McFadden, Julia Murawski and Macy Ritchey had two apiece and Ella Cowger had one. Smith collected five RBIs and Jordyn Fickes had four, Murawski, Ritchey and McFadden had two apiece and Martin, Joslyn Fickes, Kennedy Fickes and Cowger had one apiece. Smith and Jordyn Fickes each smashed one home run apiece.

Macy Mager picked up the win in the circle allowing one run on two hits with 11 strikeouts in five innings of work.

The Falcons improve to 18-7 on the season and take on Hanover United at 5 p.m. on May 20 at Wooster Triway for a Division VI district championship.

Division III Sectional Semifinal Baseball: Lima Shawnee 16, Mansfield Senior 0 F/2

The Mansfield Senior Tygers took a 16-0 loss to Lima Shawnee in the Division III sectional semifinals on Tuesday night.

The Tygers were trailing 16-0 after the first inning before bad weather caused the game to be postponed. Instead of going back to finish, Mansfield Senior decided to effectively forfeit.

The Tygers finish the season 0-22.

Monday, May 18

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: Black River 4, Independence 2

The 17-seeded Pirates pulled off one of the biggest upsets across the state knocking off 4-seed Independence on the Blue Devils’ home field.

Black River struck first in the third inning when Rebekah Miller scored on a passed ball after opening the inning with a single, stealing second during Haley Jackson’s at-bat, and moving to third on another passed ball with Olivia Bailey up to bat. The Pirates doubled the advantage in the fifth on a Remington Dieter sacrifice bunt allowing Jackson to score.

Two more insurance runs were added in the sixth when Jenna Dieter drove in Briley Jackson, then scored herself on an error during the next at-bat that Miller put in play. Independence went down swinging scoring twice in the bottom of the seventh, but Abbey Kiser got her ninth strikeout of the game to end it.

Miller had two hits, Jenna Dieter one; Remington Dieter the lone RBI for the Pirates. Kiser walked nine in addition to striking out nine, allowed three hits, two earned runs.

Black River advances to a district championship on Wednesday against 10-seed Mogadore at Massillon Perry High School, first pitch is slated for 5 p.m.

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: Mogadore 7, Loudonville 6

The 15-seed Redbirds saw a fifth inning lead slip away and their tournament run come to an end against No. 10 Mogadore.

Mogadore scored a trio of runs in the first inning before Loudonville got on the board in the second with a Kylie Dininger sacrifice bunt to score Jaiden Stitzlein. The Redbirds tied it up in the fourth on a Kaitlyn Hustack groundout that scored Jocelyn Kegley, then Ella Whelan bunted to score Stitzlein.

The Wildcats retook the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth before Loudonville took the lead in the top of the fifth. Helaina Gray doubled to scored Addison Wolford, Stitzlein singled to score Gray, and Hustack reached on an error that allowed Kegley to score for a 6-5 lead. Unfortunately with two outs in the bottom of the inning, Autumn Betts singled into left field scoring a pair of go-ahead runs. Loudonville got a hit in the sixth but sat down in order in the seventh to put an end to comeback hopes.

Wolford ended her career with three hits and a stolen base, Gray, Kegley, Stitzlein, Hustack each had a hit.

Division VI District Semifinal Softball: LaBrae 4, Mapleton 1

The 3-seeded Mounties were upset on their home field by 7-seed LaBrae spoiling their chance at defending their district title.

The Vikings opened the scoring with a run in the second and two more in the third before Mapleton scored its lone run of the game in the fourth when Payten Frye’s single scored Mattie Betts. Betts had two hits for the Mounties while Frye, Kelsi Clark, and Ava Clay each had one. Clark took the loss in the circle allowing eight hits, four runs, three earned, three strikeouts, and one walk.

Division VII Sectional Final Softball: Lucas 8, Plymouth 6

The Lucas Cubs earned a thrilling 8-6 Division VII sectional championship win over the Plymouth Big Red on Friday night.

With the Big Red leading 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cubs scored four runs in the home half to build a big enough of a lead to pull out the win. The Cubs took advantage of two Plymouth errors and a Destiny Foss RBI single during the breakout inning.

Foss and Olyvia Culler led the Cubs with two hits apiece while Myah Midkiff and Emma Brown had one apiece. Foss collected three RBIS while Culler had one.

Charlize Stinehour earned the win in the circle allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits with three strikeouts in 5 ⅔ innings of work. Arianna Ohm worked the final 1 ⅓ allowing one unearned run on no hits with a strikeout.

Zarah Plank, Madison Montgomery, Presley Martin, Makayla Cunningham and Makayla Bowman had one hit apiece for the Big Red. Plank had two RBIs while Bowman and Autumn Roberts had one apiece.

Montgomery pitched well enough to win allowing eight runs, just two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts in six innings.

The Cubs improve to 7-9 and take on Mohawk at 4 p.m. on May 20 at Buckeye Central in a district semifinal. Plymouth ends the season 2-21.

Division VII Sectional Final Softball: Monroeville 12, Crestline 2 F/5

The Crestline Bulldogs took a tough 12-2 loss to Monroeville in the Division VII sectional championship game on Friday night.

Kaidanze Bedson and Izzy Sefcek had one hit apiece for Crestline. Sefcek and Ava Kohls had one RBI apiece.

Crestline ends the season 4-12.

Thursday, May 14

Division III Sectional Final Softball: Ontario 7, Sandusky 3

Division III Sectional Final Softball: Shelby 18, Ashland 4 F/5

The Whippets won a Division III sectional championship with a convincing win over the Arrows in five innings.

Ashland opened the scoring in the top of the first when Marlee Henderson grounded out to Jordyn Thauvette in the circle but drove in Kenna Chandler. Shelby responded immediately in the bottom opening with back to back singles — the latter from Karlie Walp that scored Natalie Kennard after she stole second and third — and a double from Kendall Bowman that scored Walp. Braylee Sturts drew a walk then Thauvette laid down a bunt that scored Bowman, and Sturts then scored on a sacrifice bunt by Kelsey Young. The Whippets scored four more in the second, six in the third, and four more in the fourth for good measure.

Kennard was 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs and three stolen bases, Bowman had three hits, four runs, five RBIs, and a walk. Sturts drew two walks, drove in four runs, scored three herself, and had a hit, Walp scored four times with two hits, one RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Thauvette earned the win striking out five and walking two.

Josie Vantilburg and Henderson had two hits apiece for the Arrows; Chandler, Rowyn Garn, Henderson, and Isla McFrederick each scored a run. Henderson took the loss allowing seven earned runs on six hits and walked four in two innings, Chloe Crunkilton tossed two innings and allowed 10 earned runs.

Shelby improved to 22-5 and will take on Madison at 4 p.m. on May 21 at Willard in the district semifinals.

Division V Sectional Final Softball: New London 7, Mansfield Christian 3

The Wildcats won a Division V sectional championship despite a terrific pitching performance from the Flames.

Mansfield Christian opened the scoring when Bailee Nelson’s sac fly scored Maddie Hockman in the first inning. With two outs in the third inning, however, New London got a single from Addison Yetter who then advanced to second on a passed ball in Hailie Pylant’s at bat. Pylant singled to score Yetter and ended up on third herself via an error. Gracie Thomas then stepped up and singled to drive in Pylant for a lead the Wildcats would never relinquish. Yetter drove in Natalie Weaver in the fourth, Olivia Yetter tripled in the fifth to score Pailee Wilson and an error a few batters later allowed Weaver to score again. The hosts capped off the scoring with a Yetter sac fly in the sixth to score Pylant and Weaver’s fly ball was dropped allowing Thomas to score the final run.

Both Yetters, Thomas, and Wilson had two hits apiece, Weaver and Pylant scored a pair, Olivia Yetter drove two in and stole a base. Addison Yetter earned the win in the circle with three strikeouts.

Hockman, Tori Zerby, Cassidi Nelson, Kaci Pollard, Lillie Mowry, Jael Sterken, and Haylee Shade all had a hit for the Flames; Hockman, Pollard, Mowry scored runs. Bailee Nelson took the loss allowing nine hits, seven runs, two earned, striking out eight, and walking two.

The Flames end the season 11-7.

Wednesday, May 13 

Division III Sectional Final Softball: Lexington 2, Norwalk 1

The Lexington Lady Lex won a Division III sectional championship with a 2-1 win over Norwalk on Wednesday night.

Lady Lex got on the board in the bottom of the first when Alexis Cantrell drew a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on a passed ball to give Lex a 1-0 lead. The added their second run in similar fashion after Rylie McGuire drew a one-out walk, advanced on a wild pitch, moved to third on a Cantrell sacrifice bunt and scored on a wild pitch.

Lady Lex had just one hit for the game by Quinn Patrick. Mariana Molton did the rest in the circle allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.

Lady Lex improves to 13-9 and will face the winner of Sandusky and Ontario at 6 p.m. on May 21 at Willard in the district semifinals.

Division IV Sectional Final Softball: Clear Fork 16, Vermilion 2

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: Loudonville 17, Columbiana Crestview 6 F/5

The Loudonville Redbirds picked up a convincing 17-6 Division VI sectional championship win over Columbiana Crestview on Wednesday night.

Helaina Gray led the Redbird with four hits while Addison Wolford and Kaitlyn Hustack added three hits apiece, Jocelyn Kegley had two and Jaiden Stitzlein, Ella Whelan and Kylie Dininger had one apiece. Gray collected seven RBIs while Wolford had four, Hustack and Whelan had two apiece and Kegley and Eden Burnett had one apiece.

Stitzlein took the win in the circle allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits with two strikeouts in five innings of work.

Loudonville improves to 12-9 and will travel to Mogadore at 5 p.m. on May 18 for a district semifinal matchup.

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: Black River 15, Lake Central Christian 5 F/5

The Black River Pirates picked up an easy 15-5 Division VI sectional championship win over Lake Center Christian on Wednesday night.

Peyton Stewart and Jenna Dieter led the Pirates with three hits apiece while Madelyne Stief, Abbey Kiser and Rebekah Miller had two apiece and Heidi Clark, Briley Jackson, Haley Jackson and Emma Bright had one apiece. Kiser and Dieter collected three RBIs apiece while Stewart and Dieter had two apiece and Miller, Jackson and Olivia Bailey had one apiece.

Kiser took the win in the circle allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits with one strikeout in five innings of work.

The Pirates improve to 7-11 and travel to Independence at 5 p.m. on May 18 for a district semifinal matchup.

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: Hillsdale 19, Medina Christian 0 F/5

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: Mapleton 18, Wellington 1 F/5

The Mounties cruised to an 18-1 Division VI sectional championship at home Wednesday night.

Payten Frye, Jaiden Simonson, and Kenzie Hellickson had three hits apiece while Kelsi Ramey, Audrey Hellickson, and Addison Hess had two each. Ramey and Simonson scored three runs apiece, Audrey Hellickson, Hess, and Frye two each. Kenzie Hellickson had four RBIs, Hess and Frye three each.

Audrey Hellickson earned the win in the circle throwing a one-hitter over three innings with four strikeouts, Lilly Delosh closed out the final two innings.

Mapleton advances to the district semifinal where the Mounties will host Leavittsburg LaBrae on May 18 at 5 p.m.

Division V Sectional Final Softball: Huron 6, Crestview 5 

The Crestview Cougars took a tough 6-5 Division V sectional championship loss to Huron on Wednesday night.

Allison Volz and Bria White led the Cougars with two hits apiece while Mallory Ringler had one. White and Ringler collected two RBIs apiece while Volz had one. White clubbed a home run in the loss.

Volz took the loss but pitched well enough to win. She allowed six runs, none earned, on seven hits with seven strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings of work.

The Cougars end the season 10-9.

Division IV Sectional Final Softball: Clyde 14, Galion 0 F/5

The Galion Tigers took a tough 14-0 loss to Clyde in the Division IV sectional championship game on Wednesday night.

Chloe Jutz led the Tigers with two hits while Shyelia Busler, Katelyn Carr and Sara Holt had one apiece.

The Tigers end the season 6-20.

Division V Sectional Final Softball: Elmwood 11, Willard 1 F/6

Tuesday, May 12 

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: Wynford 18, Buckeye Central 4

Division VI Sectional Final Softball: South Central 11, Bucyrus 1 F/6

The South Central Trojans picked up the Division VI sectional championship with an 11-1 win over Bucyrus on Tuesday.

Zaida Myers, Ember Phillips and Viola Culler led the Trojans with three hits apiece while Claire Howell, Novaleigh Myers and Mayson Middaugh had one apiece. Phillips, Myers and Culler had two RBIs apiece while Middaugh and Howell had one apiece.

Culler picked up the win in the circle allowing one run on three hits with three strikeouts in six innings of work.

Peyton Fackler, Addison Weber and Tori Stang had one hit apiece for Bucyrus. Fackler had the lone RBI on a solo home run.

South Central improves to 6-12 and hosts Plymouth on May 13 in a regular-season game. The Trojans take on Wynford at 5:30 p.m. on May 19 at Shelby in the Division VI district semifinals. Bucyrus ends its season 5-14.
