Granville boys tennis completed a 17-0 season on May 11, nipping Watkins Memorial 3-2.
Purin Songrug (6-4, 1-6, 1-0) and Jack Hann (6-3, 6-1) won their singles matches for the Blue Aces, while the doubles team of Kyle Kirby-Will Heckman prevailed 6-2, 6-1.
Graham Smith won his singles match 6-0, 6-3 for the Warriors (12-6), while the doubles team of Gavin Adelman-Nathan Walter scored a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
BASEBALL
NC owns Cardinal
Owen Przymierski allowed three hits, struck out nine and walked one over six innings on May 11, as host Newark Catholic wrapped up the outright Licking County League-Cardinal Division championship with a 7-0 crossover win against Licking Heights (5-13, 5-10).
Alex Nagel had a double and RBI for the Green Wave and Kane Stephey two singles and two runs scored for the Green Wave (15-6, 11-5). Dayne Scott added a single with two RBIs, while Max Moore, who pitched a scoreless seventh, and Przymierski each knocked in a run.
Heath walks it off
Jamison Walsh’s third hit of the game, a seventh-inning RBI single, scored Drew Gostrue with the winning run and gave Heath a 4-3 LCL crossover win against visiting Zanesville on May 11.
Quentin Sunkle pitched a four-hitter, allowing just two earned runs for the Bulldogs (12-10, 10-6). Cam Stephens had two singles with an RBI, Trevor Enders also had two hits and Keegan MacDonald chipped in with a hit and another RBI.
Valley romps
Grayson Snow fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks May 11, and Zane Hancock clubbed two doubles and a single with three RBIs as visiting Licking Valley rolled past Northridge 12-0 in a LCL crossover contest.
Trey McLaughlin added a double and single with two RBIs, Adam West a double and single with an RBI, Ethan Wolfe two singles and two RBIs and Brody Rodgers two singles and an RBI for the Panthers (18-3, 15-1).
Collin Matheson and Braden Yoder had the only hits for the Vikings (12-8, 9-7).
Watkins victorious
Cooper Lang tripled and knocked in two runs and Dylan Gray doubled with an RBI, as visiting Watkins Memorial staved off Utica 5-4 in a LCL crossover on May 11.
Cam Burt doubled and singled, while Kaden Barrows got the win in relief for the Warriors (13-8, 10-5).
Losing pitcher Braxton Fisher struck out 10 and allowed just three earned runs for Utica (5-19, 3-13). Elijah Bland slugged a pair of doubles, Nate Hite and Gaige Spray each had two hits and an RBI and Aaron Hays scored two runs.
Granville rolls
Winning pitcher Levi Legg didn’t allow an earned run over four innings, while Wilson Wells and Jake Johnson each had two hits with an RBI, as visiting Granville downed Lakewood 9-1 in a LCL crossover.
Johnson also scored three runs for the Blue Aces (12-9, 11-5). Jakob Culver, Austin Thompson and Luke Jakobowski each added an RBI.
Jaxson Marlo had two hits for the Lancers (7-15, 4-12).
Johnstown falls
Erik Marohl had an RBI double and Braeden Archibald also doubled for visiting Johnstown in an 11-2 LCL crossover loss to Mount Vernon (10-11, 7-9).
Losing pitcher Landon Myers drove home a run for the Johnnies (8-12, 5-10).
GCA surging
Aiden Geiger and Aidan Rhoads each chased home three runs on May 11, as visiting Granville Christian Academy won its fourth in a row with a 7-2 victory against Wellington.
Geiger smacked a two-run homer and single and Rhoads had two singles for the Lions (12-8). Layton Sheppard also had two hits with an RBI, while Matthew Riedel got the win, yielding two earned runs and fanning six over four innings.
Liberty beaten
Visiting North Union dropped Liberty Union to 5-11 by a 17-0 count on May 11.
Caiden Saunders had the only hit for the Eagles.
SOFTBALL
Panthers now 21-0
Emory Whisner struck out 11 and walked one in a four-hitter, out-dueling Addy Bocock who mowed down 15 on strikes, as visiting Licking Valley stayed undefeated May 11 with a 2-0 win against Danville (18-5).
Whisner had an RBI triple and Alexa Gilliam a run-scoring double, both scoring D’Neya Dennis who went 3 for 3 for the Panthers (21-0).
Warriors win
Gracie Gerhardt had a double and single with two RBIs on May 11 and Cori Groothuis scattered eight hits in a complete game, lifting host Watkins Memorial past Licking Heights 4-1 in the LCL-Buckeye.
Emma Jellison also doubled and singled, Alli Langwasser two singles and Marissa Weber a single and RBI for the Warriors (17-7, 11-5).
Losing pitcher Natalie Mahoney fanned seven, didn’t walk a batter and gave up just two earned runs for the Hornets (13-9, 7-7).
NC wins again
Brooklyn Kurtz drove in four runs with a double and single on May 11 as Newark Catholic derailed visiting Reynoldsburg 11-1 in five innings.
Veronica Bailey doubled and pitched four one-hit innings with seven strikeouts for the Green Wave (17-8). Aly Rothweiler struck out the side and also went 3 for 3 with an RBI, while Joanna Bailey added two singles with an RBI, scoring three runs, Marissa Richards contributed two hits and Jenna Snider had an RBI.
Lancers prevail
Host Lakewood pounded out 18 hits on May 11 in a 14-7 LCL-Cardinal Division win against Utica.
Averie Adams went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and Allie Stimmel clouted a pair of doubles with three RBIs for the Lancers (16-9, 10-6). Ashlyn Carder had three hits with an RBI, Jaycie Montie two doubles and two RBIs, Aleah Jackson a double and single with an RBI, Cora Redman two singles with an RBI, and Briana Hoisington, Anna Crist and Hayden Buehler also drove in runs.
Kiersten Hull tripled and singled with two RBIs and Addi Moore also knocked in two runs for Utica (13-11, 7-9). Avery Rine had two doubles, Kaitlin Evans doubled, Katie Kidd had an RBI, Emily Meyers stole two bases and Kenzie Fletcher scored two runs.
Lackey hits 17th
Aubrey Lackey slammed a two-run homer, her 17th of the season for Granville in an 11-2 loss to visiting Gahanna on May 11.
Kaylee Watkins had two hits for the Blue Aces (11-16).
Eagles soar
Vanessa Carroll plated home six runs with a triple and single May 11 as visiting Liberty Christian routed Shekinah Christian 22-9 in the Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League.
Madison Looney had four RBIs on a double and two singles, while Macyn Looney added a triple and single with an RBI for the Eagles (6-11, 5-5). Jerynn Miller had a double and two RBIs, Katelyn Nestor two singles with two RBIs, Kayla Feeney also had two hits and Viv Neuhart knocked in a run.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Newark rallies
After losing the first set 22-25, Newark came back for a 25-16, 25-14, 25-22 win against Big Walnut on May 11.
Miles Drake had 15 kills, 11 assists, eight digs and five aces for the Wildcats. Koby Watson added 10 assists, seven kills, eight aces and six digs, while Zalyn Hanzey had 15 digs, 10 aces and eight kills.
