Hard to believe, but the first signs that the 2025-26 high school sports year is winding down have already taken place.
League championships were decided in track and field and girls tennis last week. Next up is regionals this week in those sports, while league titles will be determined in other sports.
The final scheduled day for high school sports this school year is June 13, the date of state championships in baseball, girls soccer and softball.
That also means there are only a handful of Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week polls remaining until the fall.
I need to occasionally offer reminders when posting these polls that I can not a tech expert. I get claims every now and then that whoever is leading the poll MUST be using a bot to get so many votes. I have no idea how you can conduct bot voting and I suspect it’s just the excuse people reach for, like “the refs were against us” when a team loses or “the coach doesn’t like my kid” when he or she doesn’t get much playing time.
I remind parents that it’s a big honor just to have your son or daughter nominated by the local newspaper for Athlete of the Week.
So, vote early, vote often, but realize that all five athletes below had pretty awesome weeks and deserve to be highlighted in this poll.
Voting ends at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 13.
Davea Crowe, Pinckney track and field: Crowe swept the hurdles at the SEC White championships in dominant fashion, winning the 100s by more than one second in a personal-best 16.12 and the 300s by more than three seconds in 48.05.
Connor Gilbert, Hartland lacrosse: Gilbert had a huge week, leading Hartland to three victories. He had seven goals against Howell, three goals and three assists against Brighton, and six goals and two assists against Forest Hills Eastern.
