A big second quarter helped lift Union to a 21-5 win over Mount Union in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on May 9 in Salisbury, Maryland.
Union outscored Mount Union 8-1 in the second quarter for a 14-4 halftime lead and never looked back.
Haylee Handrahan finished with three goals and an assist for the Purple Raiders, who end their season at 12-6. Mae Pawlikowski and Ella Nejad also scored for Mount Union. Abby Reagan recorded 10 saves.
Mount Union baseball, softball await word on NCAA selections
The only path to the NCAA Tournament for the Mount Union baseball and softball teams will be the at-large route.
After winning Ohio Athletic Conference regular season titles, the Purple Raiders were defeated in both OAC tournaments. The baseball team lost to Baldwin Wallace 9-2 on May 8 and Ohio Northern 13-5 on May 9 in their double elimination tournament. The softball team lost to Capital 5-4 on May 8 in their single-elimination tournament.
The NCAA Division III Tournament pairings for baseball and softball will be released on May 11.
