UCLA has three of the Top-10 commitments from over the past week

It was a week to remember for the UCLA Bruins football program. The Bruins’ new coaching staff has completely turned around their recruiting reputation and now find themselves with an elite 2027 class under Bob Chesney.

Currently, 247 Sports has UCLA’s 2027 class at No. 4 in the nation, with 10 different four-star recruits having committed to the Bruins. It hasn’t felt like UCLA is slowing down either, landing four-star wide receiver Kingston Celifie on Friday and having a visit with four-star Ohio State quarterback commit Brady Edmunds on Thursday.

Bruins are back in the recruiting game

It’s not just the quantity of the UCLA recruits, it’s the quality too. Unlike the previous UCLA regime, Chesney has been able to attract some of the best talent in the country to Westwood, giving the program legitimate hope for the future.

This hope feels more sustainable

There was hope for UCLA under DeShaun Foster and Chip Kelly too, but that was more wishful thinking than what Chesney has shown in his six months with the Bruins. Chesney has brought in over three dozen transfers for the 2026 squad and the roster reinforcements for 2027 appear to be even greater.

Three Top-10 commits of the week

On Friday, Rivals reporter Hunter Shelton listed the Top-10 commitments from over the past week, UCLA had three of them. The list wasn’t ranked but cornerbacks JuJu Johnson and Jerry Outhouse along with interior offensive lineman Jackson Roper all made the cut.

UCLA will have to prove it again on the field this fall

It’s still the beginning stages of Chesney’s revival of the UCLA program but the amount of buy-in he’s gotten from current players, recruits and boosters all are a great indication of the early work he’s done. The games that matter are played on the field but Chesney and UCLA look like winners so far this offseason.
