Man wounded in El Mirage car-to-car shooting

A man was wounded following a car-to-car shooting and collision in El Mirage on Thursday night, officials said.

The gunfire, which was being investigated as an attempted murder, was first reported as “shots fire” about 9:10 p.m. May 7 in the area of Chamisal Street and Smith Road, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Gloria Orejel said.

Responding deputies encountered a van and a sedan that had been abandoned just west of the intersection.

“During an area check, they located an adult male victim who had been shot,” she said. The 38-year-old man was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

“Through investigation, deputies learned the victim had been driving [the van] when he was shot,” according to Orejel. “The vehicles collided and the victim exited his vehicle.”

The occupant or occupants of the suspect vehicle also fled the scene on foot and were not found.

No further details were avalable as the investigation continued.
