A sure sign the summer season is just around the corner is the annual opening of all the attractions at Eldridge Park in Elmira, and that event is happening soon.
To kick off Memorial Day weekend, Eldridge Park will officially open for the season at noon Friday, May 22.
While the park is open to the public year-round, the popular carousel and other Midway rides and attractions are only open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Beginning May 22 and through Memorial Day, park attractions will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
“We’re preparing for our 21st operating season here at Eldridge Park,” said Michael “Robby” Robertson, board president of the Eldridge Park Carousel Preservation Society. “It’ll be an exciting year as we have a lot of great events on tap, and people will want to come out to enjoy these events as well as our regular attractions.”
In addition to the carousel, other attractions include Kiddieland pony carts and kiddie boats, the Thunderbirds ride, Jasper II and the paddleboats, the Mark Twain mini-golf course, and the Tilt-a-Whirl ride, among others.
On Saturday, May 23, JLC Country Music Duo will provide live music from 5 to 8 p.m. On Memorial Day, May 25, Hot Dogs & Gin will provide live music from 2 to 5 p.m.
For visitors who are looking for other outdoor activities, Eldridge Park also offers a 1.4-mile paved walking trail around the lake, picnic areas and a dog park. There are also several sports fields, a 9-hole disc golf course and a skate park.
Fishing is always popular in Eldridge Lake as well, with brown and rainbow trout stocked each spring, along with native largemouth bass, bluegills and other fish.
