How Palm Beach County track and field athletes fared at Class 2A state

A trio of Palm Beach County high school track and field athletes secured individual glory on Thursday in the FHSAA Class 2A State Championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Glades Central sophomore E’tesia Forbes won the girls 100-meter and 200-meter races while American Heritage-Delray freshman Jewel Domingue won the triple jump. In boys competition, Somerset-Canyons senior Davontey Oliver won a state title in the triple jump.

In team competition, Cardinal Newman’s boys and American Heritage-Delray’s girls were the day’s top performers, each claiming fourth, respectively.

Forbes is now a back-to-back state champion in the 100-meter sprint and did so without losing a single race in the event across her freshman and sophomore seasons. She also placed third in long jump in Thursday’s state meet.

Domingue capped a stellar freshman campaign with another performance that emphasized her status as one of the state’s top underclassmen. In addition to the triple jump state title, Domingue was runner-up in the long jump, third in the 200-meter and fourth in the 100-meter.

Oliver, an Eastern Michigan football signee, closed his varsity track career with the top prize in his discipline. Oliver won the triple jump in six of his eight meets this season, including the Palm Beach County Championship.

The biggest surprise of the meet may have come in the boys sprints as Cardinal Newman senior Zamarii Sanders was shut out of state championship glory for the first time since his freshman season in 2023.

Sanders, a six-time state champion, took third in the 100-meter sprint despite winning the final seeded heat of the event. Palatka’s Kedric Wright Jr. won the event with a time of 10.60, edging Sanders by .06 seconds. Sanders did not start the 200-meter sprint and Newman’s 4×100-meter relay team took third place.
