Landmark Credit Union Live’s employees have won recognition for their labor union – about a month after the new downtown Milwaukee concert venue’s food service workers made a similar move.
The bargaining unit consists of 209 employees in sales, box office, cleaning, operations, runner, security, and usher/ticket taker jobs at Landmark Credit Union Live.
More than 80% of those workers signed union authorization and membership cards, according to a May 6 announcement from Milwaukee Area Service & Hospitality Workers Union.
Venue operator FPC Live, which is affiliated with concert promoter Live Nation, remained neutral during the unionization process and recognized MASH through the card count, conducted by County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson Bovell, the statement said.
An FPC Live representative didn’t immediately respond to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s request for comment.
The company and MASH will negotiate a collective bargaining agreement.
“It’s critical to have a union in an economy where it’s become nearly impossible to make ends meet,” said venue operations worker and union activist Skylar Majerus, in a statement.
“The way for workers like us to secure livable wages, rights on the job and dignity in our workplaces is by coming together in a union so we have the power together to win them in a contract,” Majerus said.
The venue workers join Landmark Credit Union Live’s 87 food and beverage workers employed by Levy Restaurants. They received union recognition on March 25.
Those nearly 300 workers join 1,200 members of MASH employed by other local service sector and hospitality employers. That includes workers at Fiserv Forum and Pabst Theater Group.
