A major members-only retailer opened a gas station in Camarillo on May 1, with its warehouse expected to start construction soon.
Costco Wholesale welcomed its members to its new 32-pump self-service gas station on 437 West Ventura Blvd. on the same day the business was granted a Certificate of Occupancy by the city of Camarillo, said Michelle D’Anna, a spokesperson for the city.
The building permit for the warehouse is close to issuance, and the company is aiming to open the warehouse by the end of 2026, D’Anna said.
Construction on the fuel station began in the summer of 2025, despite opposition by a citizen group, Ventura County Citizens Against Mega Gas. The group called for deeper environmental analysis and took the city to court, but was shot down in both Ventura County Superior Court and California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal.
As of May 5, the station only offered premium-grade gasoline to Costco members, but was selling the gas at the price it would have offered its regular grade gas, $5.49.The existing Oxnard location offers regular grade gasoline at $5.59, premium grade at $6.09 and diesel $6.89, according to its website.
The station operates under the same hours as the Oxnard location, 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to a sign at the pump. Patrons can enter through the newly opened Calle Rioja or existing Overland Road.
According to GasBuddy, an online platform that tracks gas prices across the country, the new Camarillo fuel station is amongst the cheapest in Ventura County. The cheapest gas price as of May 5 was at Mobil at 2340 Kuehner Drive in Simi Valley, which reportedly sells regular grade at $5.39 for those paying with cash.
Costco Wholesale was not immediately available for comment on whether the station would offer diesel fuel in the future or the exact opening date of its warehouse.
