A North Carolina man was killed in a crash on the New York state Thruway in Cayuga County Monday morning.
Robert McFall, 41, was driving west on the Thruway when his vehicle crossed through the center median into the eastbound lanes in Mentz, Cayuga County, just after 4:15 a.m., according to New York State Police.
The westbound vehicle struck a guard rail and came to a stop on a curve on the eastbound side of the highway, where it was struck by a tractor-trailer unable to avoid the collision, troopers said. One eastbound tractor-trailer successfully avoided hitting the stopped vehicle just before the fatal collision, according to State Police.
McFall was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said. The truck driver – a 59-year-old Florida man – was not injured in the crash.
Troopers continue to investigate the fatal crash.
