Former two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry pioneered the increased usage of the three-point shot, having led the league in attempts per game for nine of his 17 seasons.
As a result, due to Curry and Golden State’s success, the standard for offense in the NBA changed.
One former NBA Champion, Michael Porter Jr., recently opened up on this fact, crediting Curry and another all-time great scorer for their developments.
“He (James Harden) and Steph changed basketball completely. In his prime, people were guarding James from behind him. I’ve never seen that, ever.”
Both Harden and Curry have multiple seasons averaging 30 or more, with Harden’s 2018-19 season sticking out above the rest, as the guard averaged 36.1 points per game for the Houston Rockets. Harden ranks ninth all-time in scoring, a little ways above Curry, who sits 19th.
Now 36 and 38 years old, respectively, the two all-time greats are still averaging over 20 points per game.
