Theetge’s attorney, Stephen Imm, announced they filed the appeal with the city May 1. They’re asking for an “impartial decisionmaker” to decide her case as soon as possible, according to an announcement from Imm.

“We are certain that once this matter is placed before an impartial decisionmaker who looks at the facts fairly and objectively, the allegations against Terri will be exposed as the rank falsehoods that they are, and the appalling decision to remove one of this City’s finest public servants will be nullified,” Imm said in a statement.

The Enquirer has asked Cincinnati City Manager Sheryl Long’s office what the next steps are and who the arbiter would be. The messages have not been returned.

How Teresa Theetge got fired

Long fired Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge April 23 six months after she placed Theetge on paid leave amid public concerns over how crime in the city was being addressed.

Theetge and her attorneys have accused Pureval and Long of making her a scapegoat ahead of the November election. In a recording of a two-hour hearing released by her attorney, Theetge said Pureval threatened to fire Long if she didn’t fire the chief.

The mayor has said this is not true and said politics has nothing to do with Theetge’s dismissal. The city manager has said it was her decision to fire Theetge.

Imm has said they also intend to file a federal lawsuit against the city.
