An 84-year-old man driving a 91-year-old classic car was killed in a solo-vehicle rollover crash along the 15 Freeway north of Apple Valley early Wednesday, authorities said.
Dale Perry of Palmdale was killed in the wreck, which took place about 6:25 a.m. April 29 on the northbound side of the freeway south of Hodge Road, in an unincorporated county area, according to California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County coroner’s officials.
He was driving a 1935 Willys four-door sedan at about 55 mph prior to the crash, CHP officials said in a written statement.
“For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle veered to the right onto the dirt shoulder and subsequently collided with a dirt embankment, causing the vehicle to overturn,” the statement said.
Perry was taken to an area hospital, where he soon died from his injuries.
The cause and circumstances of the crash remained under investigation, however, DUI was not initially suspected.
No further details were avaiable.
CHP officials offered their sympathies to Perry’s loved ones.
“The California Highway Patrol Barstow Area extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends impacted by this tragic loss,” the statement said. “Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.”
