Man arrested after stabbing death in Norrie faces firearm charge

WAUSAU − A 58-year-old man arrested after the April 26 stabbing death of his brother in Marathon County is being held on a $300,000 cash bail but hasn’t been charged in his brother’s death.

Timothy J. Anker, of Norrie, is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Marathon County Circuit Judge Rick Cveykus set the $300,000 cash bail during Anker’s initial appearance on the firearm possession charge April 29. According to online records, the bail was for the firearm case and a second case. No other charges have been filed against Anker and no details on the second case are available on the case in online court records other than the reference in the firearms case.

At 12:32 a.m. April 26, the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in the 183000 block of Norrie Road in the town of Norrie, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. When deputies arrived, they found Thomas J. Anker, 57, with a stab wound. Despite lifesaving measures, Thomas Anker died at the scene.

Police arrested Timothy Anker, Thomas’ brother, according to the release.

The next day, officers were looking at photos of the scene and saw a gun cabinet next to Timothy Anker’s bed, according to the criminal complaint. Timothy Anker was convicted March 11, 2011, in Marinette County of third-offense drunken driving with a minor under the age of 16 in the vehicle. The felony conviction meant Timothy Anker was not allowed to possess any firearms, according to the criminal complaint.

Officers got a search warrant and returned to the Norrie home to find two shotguns and one rifle in the gun cabinet, according to the complaint.

Timothy Anker is scheduled for a review hearing on the firearm possession charge on May 1.
