A Milwaukee Department of Neighborhood Services special enforcement inspector was shot at when three teenagers attempted to steal his vehicle on April 29, authorities said.
The inspector was assisting the Milwaukee Police Department with an inspection of a nuisance property at 3200 W. Wisconsin Ave. around 3:30 p.m. According to police, the inspector encountered a teen attempting to steal the vehicle when the boy fired a shot and fled in a separate vehicle.
According to the police, no one was injured from the shots being fired. However, the inspector’s jacket was grazed by a bullet.
The suspect vehicle was later observed around 4 p.m. on the 1300 block of North 12th Street. When police officers attempted to make a stop, the driver, a 14-year-old boy, fled and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The pursuit ended when the boy lost control of the vehicle and collided with another automobile on North 12th Street and West State Street. The driver and the other two occupants – 16-year-old and 11-year-old boys – were arrested.
The teenagers were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries, according to police.
The vehicle being driving by the teen was determined to be a stolen automobile, said police, who also recovered a firearm.
Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Police did not release the inspector’s name.
