Flagler College sophomore outfielder/first baseman George Gilson of Jacksonville was voted Peach Belt Player of the Year by the conference coaches on April 30 after a season in which he led the PBC in almost every power-hitting category.
Gilson, who graduated from St. Johns Country Day, has 13 homers, 67 RBI, 21 doubles, five triples, scored 62 runs and hit .406. He also had a slugging percentage of .781, an on-base percentage of .487 and an OPS of 1.268. He led the conference in doubles, homers, RBI, total bases, slugging, OBP and stolen bases with 33.
Gilson, the first Flagler player to earn the Peach Belt Player of the Year, also played two outfield positions, left and right, and first and made only six errors in 179 chances.
Joining Gilson on the first team All-PBC are junior pitcher CJ Hanson and junior third baseman Payton Palladino.
Hanson leads the Saints and the conference with a 3.07 earned run average and is the team leader with a 7-2 record and 75 strikeouts in 82.0 innings pitched.
Palladino is hitting .303 with 15 doubles, five homers, 32 RBI and 40 runs scored.
Flagler (33-16, 20-10 in the Peach Belt) is playing in the Peach Belt Tournament beginning on May 1 in Dahlonega, Ga. The Saints will face Georgia Southwestern in their first game.
