Here’s what King Charles and Queen Camilla are doing in NYC today

King Charles and Queen Camilla are now on the third day of their U.S. visit and are expected to arrive in New York City today.

The royal couple landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on April 27, marking the first state visit to the United States by a British monarch in nearly two decades. They were greeted by U.S. Ambassador Monica Crowley before traveling to the White House, where President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump welcomed them.

During their time in Washington, the royals took part in a series of events, including a private tea, a ceremonial military review, a garden party and a bilateral meeting with the president. King Charles also delivered a rare address to Congress.

The visit comes as the United States prepares to mark its 250th anniversary and amid renewed focus on the U.S.-U.K. relationship.

The trip, which runs through April 30, marks the first official U.S. visit by a British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II’s visit in 2007.

What are the royals’ plans in New York City?

During their New York City visit, King Charles III and Queen Camilla are expected to take part in several high-profile and community-focused events.

The royal couple is scheduled to visit the National September 11 Memorial, where King Charles will meet with first responders and families of victims. The visit is expected to include a wreath-laying ceremony alongside former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other officials.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was invited to attend, though his office said he will not meet privately with the king.

“The mayor will not meet privately with King Charles,” spokesperson Joe Calvello said in a statement. “He was invited to join a number of New York elected officials at a wreath-laying ceremony at the 9/11 memorial with members of the British royal family.”

The visit comes ahead of the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

King Charles is also expected to visit a grassroots organization that supports children and young people affected by food insecurity through a sustainable urban farming program.

Queen Camilla is expected to attend an event celebrating the shared love of literature between the United States and the United Kingdom.

A rare royal visit to New York

The trip marks the first visit to New York City by a British monarch since Queen Elizabeth II visited in 2010, underscoring renewed attention on the U.S.-U.K. relationship.

What to expect during the visit

Security is expected to be tight throughout the visit, though specific details about timing and locations have not been fully disclosed.

After leaving New York, the royal couple is scheduled to travel to Virginia before concluding their U.S. trip.
