Meet the challenger taking on US Rep. Jefferson Shreve's conservative credentials

Editor’s note: This interview is part of our ‘Meet the Candidates’ show. We invited the other Republican primary candidate in this race, U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve, but haven’t received a response.

This isn’t exactly Sarah Janisse Brown’s first rodeo running for office, though running for Congress is a far different ballgame than Fortville Town Council or state convention delegate more than a decade ago.

The Greenwood mother of 15 had intended to take a big swing once her youngest was at least 10 years old, and that has now come to pass. Surprised that no one decided to challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. Jefferson Shreve for the 6th Congressional District’s Republican nomination, it hit her that she could be the one. The district includes the southern portion of Marion County and stretches east to Indiana’s border.

Brown hasn’t forgotten the positions Shreve took on the Second Amendment during his prior campaign for Indianapolis mayor ― he supported repealing permitless carry, for instance ― and believes she would be a more inspiring candidate for conservatives. She also has some distinguishing features: she’s a mother who homeschooled her children on the family farm, developed a therapy program for kids with dyslexia and subscribes passionately to the Make America Healthy Again ethos ― prioritizing whole foods over processed foods, skeptical of big pharma, vaccines and over-medicating kids.

IndyStar sat down with Brown on our “Meet the Candidates” show to talk about the race and her priorities if elected. Watch here or on IndyStar’s YouTube page.
