As Indianapolis awakes to see what damage was left from the overnight tornado-warned storm, at least one school is shifting its educational plans.
Greenwood High School announced early April 28, 2026, that it would be operating on a synchronous learning schedule because of roof damage sustained during the storm.
Sirens blared for 15 minutes in some parts of the city, starting shortly before 11 p.m. after a tornado warning was issued for southern Marion County and northern Johnson County. Initially the warning was to expire at 11:15 p.m. but the National Weather Service updated it shortly after 11 p.m. to extend until 11:45 p.m. The warning applied to southeastern Marion County and northeastern Johnson County as well as south central Hancock County. A tornado warning was also issued for Monroe County.
This morning, flooding remains the main threat as the day goes on. Widespread heavy rainfall dumped more than 3 inches of rain in some areas during the past 24 hours. This has caused flooding along streams, rivers and low-lying areas. Another round of rain is expected tonight.
