An El Paso teen driver was killed and a teen passenger was seriously injured when a speeding sports car crashed into a concrete barrier in the far East Side, police said.
The crash occurred at 3:25 a.m. Sunday, April 26, in the 12200 block of Montana Avenue, just east of Loop 375, near the Walmart Supercenter and numerous other stores and restaurants, El Paso police reported.
The driver, Erick Holguin, 18, was killed in the crash and passenger Jonathan Reyes, 17, was hospitalized with serious injuries, a news release issued by police spokeswoman Detective Judy Oviedo stated.
Holguin was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Camaro westbound at a high speed when he crashed into a concrete barrier and a curb, causing the car to roll over, police said.
Both driver and passenger were transported to a hospital, where Holguin died of his injuries.
An investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations Unit continues.
There have been 18 traffic-related deaths in the El Paso city limits this year compared to 21 at the same time last year, according to EPPD figures.
