The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles softball team beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 8-5 on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia. They completed the sweep with the win, improving to 43-7 overall and 18-3 in ACC play. They have won the last 29 games against Georgia Tech
Ashtyn Danley broke the tie in the top of the ninth with a leadoff homer. It was her eighth of the season and started a rally for the Seminoles. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Makenna Sturgis, who hit a sinking liner right at the shortstop, who was unable to make the play, allowing two more runs to score and putting FSU up 8-5.
FSU once again opened the scoring, with Hayley Griggs and Isa Torres each hitting a solo home run in the third inning to go up 2-0. The lead did not last long as Georgia Tech responded with four runs of their own to take the lead in the bottom of the inning.
A one-out single and a walk got the rally started before another single made it a 2-1 game, and FSU turned to Danley to replace Jazzy Francik in the circle. She allowed a three-run homer to the first batter she saw, and Georgia Tech was suddenly up 4-2, their first lead of the series.
Anna Hinde cut the lead in half with a leadoff homer in the fourth inning. It was her seventh of the season. She came through again in the fifth inning, singling home Jaysoni Beachum, with a two-out hit to tie the game at 4-4.
Francik reentered the circle to start the fifth inning and worked around a one-out single. She was unable to keep them off the board in the sixth inning as a one-out single and a groundout put the go-ahead run in scoring position with two outs. Emma Simon came through, singling to left field and giving the Yellow Jackeys a 5-4 lead.
The Seminoles once again battled back as Beachum worked a one-out walk in the seventh to put the tying run aboard. Danley flew out, putting the pressure on Hinde, who once again delivered. She doubled off the wall, allowing pinch runner Angelee Bueno to score from first and keep FSU alive.
Hinde went 3-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI. Daley was also 3-5 with a homer. She also pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
FSU will play the Florida Gators on Wednesday in Gainesville in their final mid-week game of the season. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. ET and will be on the SEC Network.
