Two bartenders from The Derby in the City of Poughkeepsie were arrested and charged with first-degree unlawful dealing with a child.
This follows an underage drinking investigation by the City of Poughkeepsie, announced on April 20 by Detective Lieutenant Sean McCarthy, in coordination with the New York State Liquor Authority and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire and Building departments.
The bar at 96 Main St. received numerous community complaints regarding the sale of alcohol to underage individuals.
During the investigation, police found 20% of the patrons inside the bar were underage, and as a result, the two bartenders were arrested.
In addition to these arrests, the city’s fire and building departments identified multiple code violations at The Derby, deeming it unsafe and ordering it to close.
According to McCarthy, the bar was ordered to remain closed until all violations are corrected and the property is deemed compliant by the building department.
Yet according to a Facebook post by The Derby, the bar and restaurant will be open as early as April 21 at 11 a.m. The post said the issues had been resolved and apologized to patrons for the inconvenience.
The New York State Liquor Authority’s piece of the investigation remains ongoing.
McCarthy said in the announcement the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is committed to addressing quality-of-life concerns and ensuring community safety.
