Seventeen Livingston County runners are registered to run the 130th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 20.
Running in the world’s oldest annual marathon requires meeting a qualifying time within each age group. There are also spots allotted for runners raising money for charity and other exceptions.
The qualifying standards were lowered by five minutes for the 2026 Boston Marathon because more qualifiers registering than there are spots available. For 2026, there were 24,362 accepted qualifiers and 8,887 who weren’t accepted. Runners needed to run 4 minutes and 34 seconds faster than their age group’s standard to get in.
About 13% of all marathon finishers run a Boston-qualifying time.
Former Pinckney running standout Gavin White ran the fastest qualifying time among the county qualifiers, completing the 2025 Sri Chimnoy Marathon in New York with a time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 43 seconds. White recently completed his college running career at Columbia University.
This year’s Boston Marathon has nearly 34,000 entrants. Racing will begin at 9:06 a.m. with the men’s wheelchair race. Nonprofessional runners will begin in waves, starting at 10 a.m.
