Jaguars announce key decision about starting player on offense for 2027

The Jacksonville Jaguars have made it official, announcing on Monday that the team has exercised the fifth-year option for right tackle Anton Harrison.

GM James Gladstone announced a few weeks ago that the Jaguars would be picking up Harrison’s option.

All first-round draft picks earn a four-year rookie deal, but teams also have the ability to pick up or decline that player’s fifth-year option. These decisions have to be made prior to that player’s fourth NFL season. The deadline this offseason for members of the 2023 draft class is May 1st.

How much does Anton Harrison’s fifth-year option cost Jaguars?

According to Over the Cap, Harrison’s fifth-year option for the 2027 season is expected to be worth $19.072 million, all of which will be fully guaranteed.

Harrison’s play took a step forward last season. Out of 92 eligible offensive tackles, he ranked 29th in PFF’s pass-blocking efficiency metric. In run-blocking grade, he was tied for 50th. Harrison’s play solidified himself as the Jaguars’ starting right tackle moving forward.

Not always, but oftentimes when these options are picked up, a contract extension can follow at some point to help lower the 2027 salary cap hit. That decision does not have to be made any time soon.
