Lakeland woman dies after April 18 crash on Providence Road

A Lakeland woman has died from injuries suffered in an April 18 crash on Providence Road in Lakeland.

Just before the crash, a brown Chevrolet Malibu was traveling south on Providence Road, while a white Lexus SUV was traveling east on West 14th Street, the Lakeland Police Department said in a news release.

The Lexus entered the intersection at Providence Road and struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet, LPD said. The Malibu was redirected to the southeast and hit an electric pole. The Lexus also struck the Chevrolet a second time.

Lakeland police patrol units, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department responded at 9:33 a.m. The drivers of both vehicles were taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Tina Swakcerd, 65, suffered critical injuries and died early on the morning of April 20. LPD identified the Lexus driver as Lattessia Lankin, 34, of Tampa.

This remains an open and active investigation, LPD said. Anyone with information should contact investigating Officer Travis Payne at Travis.payne@lakelandgov.net.
