McKeel girls capture team title at 2A-9 district track and field meet

Two McKeel runners won three individual events and the Wildcats also won a relay en route to winning the girls team title at the Class 2A, District 9 on Saturday at Tenoroc High School.

McKeel finished with 160 points to edge ahead second-place Avon Park, which had 144 points. Hardee finished third with 131 points, and Frostproof took fourth with 92 points.

Jayda Davis led the way by winning the 100 in 13.31 seconds and the 200 in 26.58. She also finished third in the 100 hurdles and ran with Sydney Jackson, Addyson Koo and Kalyssa Brooks on the winning 4×100.

Davis also finished third in the 100 hurdles.

Camille Wiggs was the other individual winner for McKeel. She won the 400 hurdles in 1:10.54.

Frostproof, Mulberry and Discovery also had winners. Alyssa Ingraham’s wins in the long jump (17-01.50) and the triple jump (36-08.75) led the way for Frostproof. Ava Griffith won the pole vault (7-10.25).

Mulberry’s Kennedy McDonald was the other Polk athlete to win two events in the girls meet. She won the 800 (2:41.42) and the 1,600 (5:48.88).

Discovery won four events. Madison Goodloe won the discus (83-00), Cambelle Hubbard won the javelin (83-00.75), and the Spartans won 4×400 (4:27.04) and the 4×800 (11.00.73).

Tenoroc finished runner-up

Demetrius Jones and Jakan Andrews each won two individual events to lead Tenoroc to a second-place finish in the team competition.

Jones won the 100 (10.88) and the 200 (22.46), and Andrews won the long jump (21-05.75) and the triple jump (42-10.50). 

Also for Tenoroc, Trayvon Norton won the shot put (45-06.75) and finished third in the discus (108-07). Lamarir Poole won the 200 (22.44) and finished third in the 100 (10.94). JaDarrion Manning won the 400 (50.53).

Tenoroc also won the 4×100 and the 4×400. Jones ran on the 4×100 with Ty’rique Garrett, Jaidon Forman and Poole. Manning and Poole the 4×400 with Waldemore Adams and Ulysses Jones.

Aidan Alam and Cal Howard won individual events for McKeel. Alam won the 800 with a PR 1:56.70, and Howard won the 1,600 in 4:42.19. They also ran on the winning 4×800 with Jayden Vegter and Alex Gray.

McKeel finished fourth as a team.

Frostproof freshman Mason Berry advanced to regionals in the 100, 300, 800 and javelin wheelchair events.
