A vegetation fire burning 182 acres east of San Jacinto in Lake Elsinore prompted evacuation orders Friday, April 17, though most have since been lifted or downgraded to a warning.
The Vista Fire was reported around 4:20 p.m. near Vista Avenue and Telford Avenue, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. The fire has been mapped at 182 acres and is 10% contained, and its forward progress has stopped.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was transported to a hospital for treatment, the fire department reported.
Multiple agencies, including Riverside County, Corona and Murrieta fire departments, initially responded with engine and hand crews.
Earlier, firefighters had requested additional engines, water tenders and dozers, as well as large air tankers and a helicopter.
The cause of the fire is not immediately known.
Vista Fire evacuations
All evacuation warnings have been canceled. The evacuation order for zone RVC-1408 has been lifted, while the order for zone LSN-1407 has been downgraded to a warning.
An evacuation order means there is an immediate threat to life and residents should leave now, while an evacuation warning signals that residents should be prepared to leave if conditions worsen.
Zone LSN-1407, which remains under an evacuation warning, covers the area north of Highway 74 and El Toro Cut Off Road, east of El Toro Road; south of La Barranca Road and Santa Rosa Road, and west of Hammack Avenue.
A care and reception center at Ortega High School in Lake Elsinore and the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus in San Jacinto are now closed to new arrivals after opening earlier in response to the evacuation orders and warnings.
