Body found in Stockwell Friday morning pending identification by coroner

STOCKWELL, IN — The body of an adult male was found Friday morning in Stockwell, over a week after a man wanted for kidnapping and attempted murder was spotted in the area.

Lafayette police said they received a call for a report of a “deceased adult male” about 11 a.m. in the area of 7000 East 900 South. The Tippecanoe County Coroner’s office said in a separate release that they responded to the area about 11:35 a.m. for the report.

The coroner’s office said in the release that they are currently working on a positive identification of the man and a forensic autopsy is being scheduled for a later date.

The death comes over a week after the truck belonging to 37-year-old Adam Joseph McDaniel was spotted in the Stockwell area. In a Facebook post on April 7, Stockwell Cafe and Pizza said in a Facebook post that the business would close for the evening because of safety concerns for employees and customers.

“I have been told that a gentleman of interest and could be a dangerous suspect in a shooting in Lafayette yesterday could still be around our Stockwell area,” the business said in the post. “His truck was located outside of Stockwell on 900. As of now they are looking for him.”

McDaniel is wanted for allegedly shooting 39-year-old Rayne Shideler multiple times before fleeing the scene with Shideler’s 7-year-old son on April 6. The boy was later located at a home in Rossville unharmed.

Lafayette police said no further information about the case or the manner of the man’s death will be released at this time.
