The Ottawa County Health Department’s Sanitation Division reported the following critical violations during food inspections between March 1 and March 31. This is the final section of the March reports.
Gas and Express Mart DBA Wild Wings, 9033 W. Ohio 2, Oak Harbor. Violations: Hand sink was blocked and must be available for handwashing; a dented can of tuna was in stock and packages must be in good condition; dishwashing sanitizer concentration was 200 ppm chlorine and must be between 50-100 ppm; four sausage sandwiches and pizza being hot-held at 107-124 degrees and must be held at 135 degrees or above; taco meat was at 50 degrees and should be cooled at 41 degrees or lower; several items did not have date marks, including coleslaw, salsa, cooked pasta, bacon and chili; several items, including chocolate milk, stuffing, turkey sausage and chili, exceeded the seven-day discard dates on them; chemicals stored above single-use items in retail area.
Dollar General 19697, 3964 Russell Road, Oak Harbor. Violations: Chemicals stored above and next to single-use items not preventing cross contamination; five cans of Similac Sensitive and four bottles of DG Electrolyte Solution were past expiration dates.
Village Early Childhood Center, 1205 Main St., Genoa. Violation: A food employee was not wearing gloves and touched food with bare hands.
SEI Properties of Genoa DBA Champs Chicken/Hangar 54 Pizza, 22210 W Ohio 51, Genoa. Violations: Cinnamon apples hot-held at 115 degrees and must meet standards of 165 degrees; chicken gravy, brown gravy, corn, green beans and mashed potatoes were hot-held at 115-124 degrees and must be at 135 or above; scissors with clean equipment that did not come apart for proper cleaning.
Cozy Ramirez LLC, 501 W. Oak St., Oak Harbor. Violations: Fry ice cream and broth were not being protected from cross contamination; residue buildup on the slicer and can opener; coleslaw exceeded the seven-day discard date; sanitation bucket for cleaning surfaces exceeded 500 ppm and should be between 200-400 ppm.
WB Pizza Company, 218 W. Second St., Lakeside-Marblehead. Violation: Several food items exceeded the seven-day discard date.
Holiday Inn Express, 50 NE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. Violations: Pancake batter not time labeled and was not being replaced after specified time limit; pests detected and must be controlled by certified specialist; dish machine chlorine sanitizer was below 50 parts per million and must be over that amount up to 100 ppm.
Kaisha Hibachi Express, 119 Madison St., Port Clinton. Violations: Raw chicken stored in single-use plastic bag in freezer, which is not permitted; gallon of milk did not have a date mark for discard.
Nutrition by the Lake, 124 W. Second St., Port Clinton. Violations: Sanitizer in three-compartment sink was below required level of 200-400 parts per million; house-made protein balls need to be held cold at 41 degrees or lower and date marked for discard.
Sleep Inn and Suites, 947 Ohio 53 N., Port Clinton. Violations: Open package of sausage patties and container of milk did not have date marks for discard; two containers of cleaning solutions did not have proper labels.
Pat’s Party Mart, 306 Fulton St., Port Clinton. Violation: Bug spray and another chemical spray stored next to plastic wrap and aluminum foil used for food and not preventing cross contamination.
Kona Ice Lake Erie Shores and Island No. 3, 6020 E. Port Clinton Eastern Road, Marblehead. Violation: Hot water at facility was delivered at 55-60 degrees, below requirement. Follow-up: Water now hot to 120 degrees in seconds.
Mickey Mart No. 37, 1308 E. Perry St., Port Clinton. Violation: Personal insect spray and hygiene products stored next to and above commercial items not avoiding cross contamination, corrected.
Dollar Tree No. 6770, 1800 E. Perry St., Port Clinton. Violation: Raw eggs in cooler stored above and next to ready-to-eat foods not preventing cross contamination.
Big Bopper’s Bones and Cones, 7581 E. Harbor Road, Marblehead. Violations: Raw meat in cooler and ready-to-eat foods stored together not avoiding cross contamination; residue buildup on can opener; meat loaf and spaetzle containers exceeded seven-day discard marks.
Port Clinton Senior Center, 320 E. Third St., Port Clinton. Violation: Sanitizer in dishwasher was under 25 parts per million and must be 50-100 ppm.
Midway Stop and Go LLC., 1871 NE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. Violation: Sliced deli meats exceeded seven-day discard date.
Dollar General Store No. 17230, 3147 NE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. Violation: Chemical cleaning products stored above single-use items and not protecting against cross contamination.
Dollar General Store No. 15713, 7970 E. Harbor Road, Lakeside. Violation: Multiple instances of chemicals and possible toxic product next to or above food and food-grade items — not protecting against cross contamination; Gerber baby food items with expired use-by date.
Subway, 74 N. Jefferson St., Port Clinton. Violations: Ice machine had a residue buildup; apparent rodent droppings in a cabinet and pests need to be controlled by a certified service.
Best Western, 1734 E. Perry St., Port Clinton. Violation: Container of milk in cooler with no date mark for discard.
Speedway No. 5410-45439, 31 SE Catawba Road, Port Clinton. Violation: Unable to verify the employees have been informed of their responsibility to report health issues as it relates to foodborne illness.
LGM Food and Liquor LLC, 8037 E. Harbor Road, Marblehead. Violation: Commercially packaged raw beef brisket stored above ready-to-eat foods in cooler not protecting from cross contamination; commercially packaged pre-cooked chicken wings did not have a date mark for discard.
